The only person that had a chance of beating Arnold
back then was Sergio and it amazes me that he didn't have
the desire or discipline to diet his arse off to defeat Arnold.
He possibly should have won in 1972 but I'm still not impressed
by the definition he displayed. Arnold looked much better in 1973-74
because he knew Sergio may have come back. At one point in my
naive youth I dieted down on 500-750 calories a day for a freakin
state fair contest and probably reached 5% body fat. Here is a guy
going for the greatest bodybuilding title in the world, with probably the greatest
genetics and he shows up 80% of the time semi-smooth.
Arnold was the best of his time because he did what it took to win.

From what I remember, it was CBS that was filming the 1980 Olympia, not ABC. I doubt that they would refuse to broadcast the contest because Arnold didn't do all the mandatory poses. The only pose he did not do was the side triceps pose. He would do a side bicep pose instead. I think the reason CBS did not broadcast the contest was because there were a lot of people in the audience booing when Arnold won and it was very controversial that he won. I also remember reading that 60 Minutes was going to do an expose on the contest and it's controversy but that never came about. Also, this was not the last Mr. Olympia that was broadcast on TV. The 1982, 1983 and 1984 Mr. Olympia's were all broadcast on national television.

My apologies if i was wrong. was just going by tidbits from various websites.

apparently, the 1980 olympia is available on video. Here is a quote from Chuck Lambert:

Quote from: Chuck Lambert
the 1980 Mr. Olympia is available on video, apperently the Australian News recorded the entire contest. I purchased it recently...

if anyone is able to obtain this, or already has it, please let me know via PM, as i would be interested in purchasing it.

Pollux(et al)...

Go to Dave Draper's site (great site, as you probably know)...HE has a shot of him, Arnold and Reg Park (at the 1970 Universe) where they are ALL doing back lat spreads...and Draper smokes Arnold.

That's another pose hard to find of Arnold, but it's there.

As I mentioned in another post, there is a left-sided tricep shot, full paged photo in Bob Kennedy's "Superstars of BB" book...unsure if that's the exact name...I'd have to dig it up.

But it's in there.

Why don't you just purchase it off a website? I have it and it's worth the price...provided you're an 'Arnold guy' like myself.  ;D

You should REALLY pick up Arnold: The Early Years if you don't already have it.

Is this the picture you keep referring to? If so, it's in Robert Kennedy's Muscle Quest: Training Secrets of the Superstars...

i have heard that the 1980 olympia on gmv.com.au isn't the full contest, so that's why i was curious to see if anyone did have it in its entirety. i will be purchasing his early years dvd soon, as i have wanted that for a long time now. btw, that side-triceps shot really is amazing.

As far as I know, the GMV 2 disk version is the '80 Olympia in its entirety. Any other footage that exist has never been released.

I probably could have searched for a better
comparison pic but as soon as I saw the Arnold
tricep shot I thought it's shape was similar to Yates.
Although Arnold's arms are longer the shape of the triceps
muscle itself is similar to Dorian's.

Cool and interesting comparison shot Bizzy and that was FAR from Arnold's peak, whereby it WAS Dorians, which says A LOT for how advanced Arnold really was.

Bizzy, good work on the comparison shot!  8)

Definitely would take Arnold's physique over that grotesque figure they call Dorian...or anyone else for that matter.
