arnold backstage at a contest that wag bennett put on, hence the 'w' for wag.

there's wag on our left in the bottom pic.

GoneAway, not sure if you know this or not, but on Arnold: The Early Years DVD there's footage of him doing a curling exhibition wearing that same outfit. Good stuff!

First of all Moose, all I meant was that there was a syndicated news story from Canada on TV here (Dundee, Scotland) the other day, a light-relief sidebar about a moose crossing some frozen lake and the inevitable happening.

They got him out before he froze or drowned  :)

Also meant to say, re your fizz-eek; you are indeed Zane-like, only I believe your arms are a little shorter than his from shoulder to elbow, making your flexed arm look thicker. It's a matter of opinion whether shorter arms are a plus or a drawback.

...

The latest Arnie pics are kewl, he looked like such a baby with his chubby face in '66/'67!

I've seen a sample of that The Early Years vid, and Arnold's barbell curls ain't exactly strict LOL!

When I first saw the words 'curling exhibition' I thought it meant the kinda curling he used to do (with considerable success) with his father, before he got hooked on bodybuilding.

That sport sucks ass in my opinion, but it's popular in this country. In fact, I think Scotland's curlers did purdy well at the last Winter Olympics.

To me, it probably was invented when an ice rink janitor found a way to con retards into sweeping the ice for him LOL!

Keep up the good work, Korky! This time next year you'll be world champ!

Also, I have to wonder at the fact that Arnold had been training for 4 years or so, before someone (Bennett) pointed out that he needed to nail his calves.

Viking, when did Arnold bust his leg as a youngster? I didn't know about that.

Oh, and something else you guys can help me with.

Near the beginning of the Pumping Iron film, who is the little guy with the NY accent, who yells Jesus Christ! and leaps into Arnold's arms?

The little guy in Pumping-Iron is named Eddie Giuliani!!
Schwarzenegger broke his leg in 1971 or 1972. While guestposing the stage gave in under his weight.

it was after the 1972 olympia, while he was guestposing in south africa. apparently the stage collapsed, but the speculation is that it was a coverup for a calf implant operation.

Wouldn't be surprised about the calf-op shit. Helluva dramatic way to cover it up, though! Couldn't he have just claimed to be in a car wreck? It's well documented that Schwarzenegger was always a reckless driver, especially in his younger days.

If indeed he had a calf op, that musta been an almost unheard-of procedure in those days. I guess it still is rare among the general population.

And, again assuming it's true, who was the perceived new threat that prompted it? Couldn't have been Ferrigno, his calves were shite too, at least until he had an op of his own.

Come to think of it, did anyone have great calves back then?

i think there was still threat that sergio might come back, better than ever, given how incredibly close it was in 72. bigger calves would just help his case that much more. ur right though, it's an incredibly tough operation to get right, and i cant seem to see any scars on his legs that would seem to say that he did have one. add to that, arnold was on par with almost anyone in the world as far as calves at that point, but the fact that he may have still been worried that they were too small may have made him go under the knife. it's also funny how his calves stayed the same from 74 to 1980, even though he was about 15-20lbs smaller in 1980. it's all speculation, which i think doesnt have a whole lot of merit, but you just never know.

The little guy in Pumping-Iron is named Eddie Giuliani!!

I met him at the World Gym in Marina del Rey before it was converted to Planet Fitness.  ::)

Anyway, Eddie was a helluva nice guy! Down-to-earth...

Speaking of calves in general, they're one of the most common don't-haves among amateur BBers, be they competitive or not.

I see guys all the time who seem to regard calf-raises as a 'finishing-off exercise' i.e. just a token set or two at the end of a workout, citing that they're a small muscle. Not really, guys!

A great many guys don't give a whole lot of time to deltoids either, especially lateral/rear.

Back for a few people is out of sight and therefore out of mind.

As a matter of fact, there are still lots and lots of 'BBers' who think a workout starts with bench press and ends with barbell curls.

Must've been a shit stage! LOL! Hundred-year-old boards!

I wonder how long you gotta wait after a calf op before you can train properly.

Interesting that his entire leg was bandaged following the op.

I saw that somewhere before, and the message was hey look, this guy pulling a woman's skirt up, he's unsuitable for high office...

Y'know what? I don't trust a guy who hasn't pulled up a girl's skirt at a party. Gotta be some kinda uptight prick.

I wonder where Arnold got jeans to fit him in those days.

'70s fashion dictated that you weren't allowed to have an ass LOL!
