For my calves (they're not that big, the pic is distorted to fit in the space!) I use a 45-degree leg press, the only option at my gym. For weight I use whatever's on there when I arrive, so one week I might do one light set of 100 reps, the following week I might do four or five sets of 20 heavier reps. That random variety works well for me.
Plus I don't have to fuck around loading/unloading the press LOL!
