How long does it take you to get hungry again after a meal?
« on: January 01, 2008, 08:51:30 AM »
I am used to eating 6-8 meals a day for several years now.
I noticed that after about 2.5-3 hours I start getting pretty bad hunger swings no matter what I ate before. Sure sometimes if I eat lots of carbs on the previous meal I would get hungry maybe after 3.5 hours or so. Yet I see "normal" people who eat like 2 meals a day and they keep telling me how can I eat this much and all that shit. A tea with a candy settles them down while a tea with candy would keep me not hungry for maybe 30 minutes.
Does this happen to you guys too? The thing is that once I get hungry I start feeling lightheaded and have hard time concentrating, which is basically why I eat all the time :P
Also I am not a fat bastard by all means I'm like 160 soaking wet with 10% bf, perhaps it has to do with my methabolism but even when I was heavier with higher bodyfat I would still get hunger swings all the time.

depends on how big the meal is.  usually, it takes me a while to feel hungry again. you mention that you are 160lbs, so you must be pretty muscled up. you probably get hungry quicker because of your muscle frame & metabolism. how old r u too? if you are like 16 or 17, it's normal for you to be saying what you are saying! if you are like  70 or 80, i'd say...HOLY SHIT!   ;D consider yourself a blessed dude that you can put away as much as you do and still be a lean, mean, muscle machine!  SHOW US A PIC, THEN WE CAN DETERMONE MORE!

i am 20, training for 7 years (height is 5'11"). i work out 4 times a week and also perform 2 additional cardio sessions per week, one i do sprint running, basically emphasis on improving my 2km time which is currently 6:50, after the 6:50 that I do the 2km i continue running until i reach about total of 22-25 minutes. the other cardio session is long duration running 12km for about 55 minutes or so.
my work is mostly sitting on my ass in front of the pc for 12 or more hours a day with the casual breaks to heat up the next meal in the microwave :D
honeslty up until half a year ago or so I would not consider myself having fast methabolism as I have always been skinny/fat, however as i constantly started doing cardio and sticking to it for 6 or more months now it does indeed appear that i can get away with much more than i originally thought, although my diet is generally considered of complex carbs and proteins in every meal.
thinking again i dont feel as lightheader but more like i have this annoying "sucking" feeling in my stomach like its empty and needs some food to break down..

as for posting a pic on getbig id rather not, i feel im not on that level yet (must npc level atleast :)) to take a verbal beating by legeds like the squadfather here :)

One of the reasons you get hungry faster then "normal' people, is because in their diet there is a lot of fat intake. You said your diet consisted of carbs and proteins....fats should be in the mix...not the kind the "normal" people eat, but from good choices.

Even so, even with some added fat in your diet, which is paramount for muscle building and preserving...contray to what some will tell you....even with the perfect BB diet, the more you stick with the training and regular eating plan, the faster your metabolism should get, or at least it should remain revved up...in short, this will mean you will always be hungry every 2-3hrs...this is not a bad thing.

Dude, getting hungry every 2-3 hours is what you want!

From reading your first post and this one, you mentioned you are skinny fat and eat enough carbs. That tells me, you must not be eating enough protein or fats. Get 1 g. per lbs of bdyweight in protein a day and at least 20% fats a day from solid choices, high in EFA's.

Reason "normal" people can eat once a day is because their metabolism is out of whack and are in a starvation mode. Once you incease meal frequency, your metabolism revs up. It justs sounds like you need to get a better balance of protein, carbs and fats. You sound like you are an edurance athlete. You endurance kids like to lose a lot of muscle so stay up on protein and fats.

Thinking about it now I probably don't get enough healthy fats throughout the day.
The only natural fat source I consume is peanut butter i have with my pre-bed meal, 2-3 tablespoons.

Should I add like a tablespoon of olive oil 2-3 times during the day aswell? I don't have enough money at the moment to afford fish-oil supplements, so other suggestions would be welcome.

Olive oil would be fine, but I prefer just PB simply cause I like it...plus since money is a concern, PB is going to be cheaper...even natural PB, which you should be eating over the other anyway.

BTW, a bottle of Omega-3 fish oil is going to cost you less then PB and last a whole lot longer. For example, a jar of Smucker's natural PB cost somewhere in the $3-4 range, I eat about 2 jars/wk. A bottle of Now Omega-3 Fish oil cost $7 for 200 tabs...this last me 9wks.

Then you short change yourself.

Fats are essential when it comes to building muscle...they are also the best energy source there is. Think about it, there are more calories per gram in fats then carbs, they burn slower, etc. When you don't have fats in the system, and your body is looking for an energy source, it's going to take it from your muscle...not the stored body fat.

Whenever im low or no carbing, i get hungry all the time. I guess carbs are what fill me up and give me that sustained feeling of being full.
No doubt about it...

Those are pretty good ratios. PB is great but get some variety guys.

Almonds mixed in with your rice, Almond butter on sweet tats, avacado on salads, mix it up. Even some fatty fish for protein and EFA.

Are you trying to gain size? If so, then you are in a good position. I used to think that being an ectomorph was a curse. But, it can be of great benefit, if you apply the right diet. Now's the time to start ingesting those calories, especially with the high-quality weight gainers on the market today. Four good solid meals with three servings of weight gainer (i.e. N-Large2, that new one, IsoMass Xtreme Gainer, etc.) in between meals can help you beef up.

Years ago, I had to hike my calorie intake to 5,000 a day, to get me over 200 lbs. It's not easy, but if you stick with it, you'll get the results. That is, if gaining more size is your goal at the moment. Don't expect to be shredded, either. But, the way I felt back then, a smoother 210 beats a slightly leaner 189 any day of the week.
