Broken Hand Scraps Leites from UFC 81 Card

Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - A broken right hand suffered in training Monday has forced middleweight contender Thales Leites to withdraw from his UFC 81 bout against Nate Marquardt. Leites, winner of three in a row in the Octagon, will undergo surgery on the hand later this week.

Try training sometime. You might figure out why.  ::)

That's like asking how someone tears an ACL grappling during training. Why are you a moderator again, kid?

Agreed, most fighters peak out about 10-14 days before their fight and then start lightening it up.   So Thales was probably in the toughest two weeks of his camp when he sustained his injury.

Training is tough, stuff happens.  Occupational risk, something a decorated muay thai fighter already knows.

Now, if you ask me, someone with 20 years of Muay Thai experience and 15+ fights would know this. Or maybe it's just me.   :-X

I miss when Comcast was running the PPVs on demand for 10 bucks.  They still have them on there but they charge full price.  Greedy pricks.

What fight is happening at the Palms on Jan. 23.  Josh Burkman is fighting

Burkman vs Smith will be headlining UFC Fight Night 12 at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday, January 23, 2008.

This will be the debut of Swick in the 170lb division. Swick made the decision to drop down after losing a tough decision to Yushin Okami in the Middleweight division at UFC 69. Before his loss Swick had won five fights in a row in the UFC and was in contention for the belt.

Burkman has won three of his last four bouts including a recent win over Forrest Petz.

He will be looking to prove to Swick that he made the wrong decision by dropping weights.

Also on the card that night will be middleweights Drew McFedries vs Patrick Cote and lightweights Thiago Tavares and Michihiro Omigawa. McFedries is one of the scariest strikers out there with heavy hands and the capability to ko anybody with one punch. He proved this in his fight with Jordan Radev knocking him out in only 33 seconds. He will be facing an experienced Cote who has started to come alive as of late stopping Kendall Grove and securing the decision over Scott Smith.

Omigawa, who defeated Matt Wiman in his Octagon debut in September, will have his hands full with Thiago Tavares. Especially if he is on his back. Thiago has world class ground-n-pound and will be looking to make a statement after his loss to Tyson Griffin in a close decision. Before his loss Thiago had two wins in a row and would like to redeem himself for sure.

“Returning to the Octagon for the first time since back to back wins over Trevor Prangley and Chael Sonnen in 2005-2006 , respected middleweight contender Jeremy Horn will replace injured Thales Leites and face Nate Marquardt on February 2nd’s UFC 81 card in Las Vegas.”

Next time you copy/paste make sure it's correct, and next time you knock someone for injuring themselves in training, make sure you actually know what training for a fight consists of.

Nice made up story, it's hard to break your hands or get a black eye when you sit behind a computer for 19 hours a day.

Not at all! As much as I type I was bound to break my hands sooner or later. The black eye I got watching Tim Sylvias latest fight on video, waking up when my face hit the keyboard  :-\
