What's harder- Training, or just getting to the gym?
« on: January 09, 2008, 12:17:05 PM »
I was reading another thread about how some people hate training.

For me, I love training.  The hardest thing is getting in the car and getting to the gym.  Once I'm there, it's a breeze.

Anyone here have this problem?  Training is always great once you set foot in the gym door... the hardest part is getting in the car to drive there?

Without a doubt, training is harder.

Especially when working with lifting gear (suits, shirts et al). Training for 3+ hours, and the body starting to ache in the end, from both the lifting and the tight suits, wraps and shirts.

To get to gym, it's a breeze in comparison.

Hardest part right now seems to be working in sets with all these New Years resolution clowns.  I saw 3 different people shadow boxing monday after sets of flat bench  ::)

do you do more powerlifting than BBing?  Workouts really take 3 hours? Brutal.

For me, I go home, change, and hit the gym.  If I don't go straight to the gym, I'll end up making excuses and sitting on my butt!

I guess I need to reorganize my daily setup.  It's just so hard to find time, or motivation, or I don't know what.  When I do step in the gym door, it's a breeze.  It's just getting up from work/family for 2 hours and leaving everyday that is hard, I suppose.  I see why so many young parents make excuses to let themselves go.

Right. Too many idiots around. Can barely walk without bumping into at least one of them.

In terms of cardio I would say just getting there, once your in the gym then cardio for me is a breeze. But training should be harder.....i mean anyone can get into the gym and just go through the motions, but actaully training hard, with intensity I would say is a way bigger feat.

an empty gym is not a problem, whatever the time it takes to get there. It's like heaven.

the problem with the gym is  when it's crowded with 9 people out of 10 who have no clue why they re here.

My problem is getting to the gym. They don't let me park my Segway in the lot and I don't want to get my Lamborghini all dinged up, so it's either walk 4 miles or just watch 'Shot of Love with Tequila" again and again while I 'work out' my grip.

If I go straight home after either work and/or school, it is very difficult to get my ass up and into the car to hit the gym lol. Once I am there, then its all good :)

yeah, it was easy to go when i drove to work/school everyday.
now that i work from home, it's hard to make a trip that far just to lift.

Getting to the gym.

Millions of gym members (that only from time to time) use their membership after january is proof of that.

The only ones that claim training is hard are those masochist milos-followers that walk around with a giant bottle of snake-oil in one hand - and a bucket to puke in in the other  ;D

I second you! I hate the preparations at home, then looking for parking place, the check-in, I also hate to warm up, but after the first set of anything, I'm fine.

How far is your gym away?

about a 20 minute drive.  I moved to the sticks.  When I had an apartment it was 2 minutes down the road.  Now it's like a huge production to go there, if I don't hit it on the way to something.

20 min is not that bad. I live in NYC, queens, and there is practically a gym every 10 blocks :)..I would say within a 10-17 ( i am very precise) minute drive from my place, I can count at least 10-15 gyms.

yeah, i guess for the first time in my life, i'm feeling a serious time crunch... or maybe justification to leave home during those precious 4 family hours each night.   I see why so many ppl get married and get fat... not making excuses, i'm still eating and training. it's just not automatic on the schedule anymore.

my gym luckily is on the way home and is less than five minutes from my house. the hardest part for me latly is getting a nagging injury. like tuesday i started doing one arm rows and by my third set my bicep was killing me. i use good form and stretch and did a warm up set. next i moved on to wieghted chins felt even worse i had to drop the wieght.

this week im pretty sure i wont even attempt to train biceps.
