she didn't break any f'ng laws so what's the problem.

In fact this kind of controversy could only happen in America.

We're the land of freedom and liberty yet were so uptight about the human body, sexuality, etc...

Who the fuck cares

There is no problem, unless you are her or work for her.  Because now you have a mountain of haters to deal with and getting her reelected will be tricky.

really?  Do we know this to be a fact?

She's the UNPAID mayor of a tiny town in Oregon.

If the 600 or so citizens (and probably much less actual voters) have a problem with her then they can have a recall vote.

This should never rise to the level a national story

20/20 should spend it's valuable air time doing a story about the recount in New Hampshire or something that's actually relevent to the country

This woman took these photos as part of some fitness contest.  If the people in this tiny town have a problem with that then let them deal with it themselves

I'll say it again - we have serious issues with the human body, sexuality, etc.... in this country.

The Italian's elected a hard-core porn actress to their Parliment and that was 20 years ago

Do you think that her office, if they could, would rather have the issue to deal with or not have the issue to deal with?

Other than that there's not much to talk about.

And save the wear and tear on your soap box.   I agree with you about how America has a problem with the human body, but in today's politics and in the spirit of staying in office and not bringing negative attention to yourself, they or she should have had the pic removed.

it wasn't an issue until they made it one and regardless it should only matter to them.

I'd be willing to bet that the only people that have a problem with the photo are a couple of fat cows or even more likely a political opponent who is just using it to create controversy

Fuck - why are WE even discussing it.   Surely you and I don't care.  We only know about it because the national media made it into a story

You agree that America is the one with problem when it comes to body image and in the same breath you say she should have removed the photo. Wow, man you really know how to back up your beliefs you fucking marshmellow.

You need to learn how to read.

Go back and re-read everything i wrote (from the first post of mine on this thread) and maybe you won't look like a complete idiot next time you post about this.

I agree with you, they are probably some fat right wing holy rollers.  But none the less, in the arena of Public Opinion laced with the moral majority it's something you are forced to deal with in politics. (the bold is for the reading impaired, not you Strawman) And by that fact, a picture of a mayor like that is not prudent.

And i don't why WE are even discussing it.   :)

That really is a poor political move by that mayor.

this is only news worthy to the extent of laughing about something.

Ozmo,

Have you considered the possibility that she knows the nuances of her own little political pond better than we do?  Maybe she believes that she did nothing wrong and sees no reason to cave in to a handful of uptight kooks.  Maybe she knows that if she caves in it will be a tacit acknowledgement that she did something wrong - something which she does not believe to be true, and will only make her weaker in the future.   Maybe she decided it's best not to cave in everytime someone has a problem with something you've done, etc......

I'm not suggesting she needs to cave in.   She might or might not.  I don't know all the details of her situation.  I just think that surely if she had to do it all over again, that she would have took the thing off the net.  Unless, of course this is a savy deliberate move by her to increase attention and turn it into a positive for re-election....lol,  you never know.  :)

Your implying that she should have to remove the pics for her benfit in a political future. Im saying she shouldnt have to and the people should get over their vestal virgin/dirty whore complex. You come across as backing down from your beliefs is the way to go, (especially when she's 100% in the right), instead of saying, fuck it let the pics stay up.

I agree she shouldn't have to.

But I'm being practical in regards to achieving what she wants.  If America's problem with the human body is the core of her campaign then by all means keep it up and stand by it.  My point is that i'm sure it's not the core of her campaign and in the end, it was a mistake to keep it on the internet.

There are many things in this world and in this country that shouldn't be:

Kids shouldn't have to be with out medical insurance, We shouldn't have to be politically correct all that dam time, There shouldn't be so many hyper sensitive people around, people shouldn't get abortions becuase it's wrong, not becuase it's against the law, etc...

But unfortunately, certain things do exist and until we progress as a society we will need to deal with them.  and in her case, becuase of the condition of our society, it was a mistake to keep the pic on the net, not that it was in wrong, but that it was politically inept.

Mayor Loses Job Over MySpace Pics
By Brandon Barker
Feb 27th 2008 1:26PM

On Tuesday, voters in Arlington, Oregon voted 142-139 to recall Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist for the following reasons:

1. Faulty handling of water and sewer problems

2. Closing the town's municipal golf course

3. Poor management of City Council Meetings

4. Posing half-naked on a fire truck

According to The Oregonian, Mayor Kontur-Gronquist garnered "international attention" when she posted a photo of herself in a black bra and panties sitting on a fire truck.

Ms. Kontor-Gronquist, a former personal trainer (red flag), moved to the Arlington area 16 years ago and managed the books for the fire department (red flag). She also lifeguarded at the community pool (red.flag). In 2005, she became Mayor of Arlington's 481 citizens. She had 10 months remaining on her term.

"This community has become divided over this thing," said Alice Courtney, a city councilor who supported the recall. "Some wounds will heal real quickly, and there will be others who will nurse this wound for a long, long time."

I don't know about you all, but that hits me right here.

What's next for Ms. Kontur-Gronquist? Well, she'll be selling signed copies of her notorious photo on eBay, with a portion of proceeds going to the Arlington Volunteer Ambulance Service (red flag). And I'm fine with that, as long as she doesn't get abducted by Satanists.
