BJ Penn vs Joe Daddy fight result discussion
« on: January 20, 2008, 04:28:47 AM »
BJ's elbow rescued him. Even as he was walking out of the arena he looked like he needed was badly out of breath.

Can't say BJ got lucky, it was skill that opened up that wound on Joe Daddy.

But if the fight would've gone into the 3rd round, or even late 2nd, I think BJ would've been cooked.

He would be owned so hard by GSP.

And Joe Daddy looks pretty promising, needs to up his standup. But what a fcuking beast. With condition second to none.

i agree, i noticed bj looked winded as hell right after the fight and then again back stage a bit later he looked even worse...what i thought was funny was when joe interviewed him after the fight he was talking about how in shape he is, and then said check out these abs, and he didn't even have a 6 pack, i know mma isn't bodybuilding, but fuck u only weigh 155 lbs and u still don't have abs, i can't imagine he was in as good as shape as he thought he was...probably 2 many blunts imo

Even though Penn has good skills, i'll never respect the arrogant, cocky ass that he is.  Saying Sherk is "dead meat" is ridiculous.  Dudes an ass.

On a side note, I loved in round 2 when Daddy came out pissed....man i woulda loved to see a knockout of Penn

Penn looked gassed out after that fight  :o
Had daddy survived for another couple of minutes, ...

But to be fair, he did outclass him and deserved the win.

EXACTLY!!!!   These guys think cause BJ is gassed at the end of a fight that if it went on longer he would be dead.  The problem is it didn't go longer.  And do you guys really think someone who is in shape is never tired.  A guy who gets a knock out or submission quick isn't going to be as tired as someone who is on the ground fighting for two rounds straight.  Jeez, think about it.  GSP might be in awesome shape but are you telling me every fight he is in he doesn't get tired.

Yea he would have been cooked. ::)  Oh lord! ::)  If BJ was 7'3" he would be in the NBA.  If he was 6'6" 340 pounds he would be in the NFL.  Woulda, coulda, shoulda.  IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

BJ Penn was exhausted even when walking out of the arena.

In a fight that didn't last 2 rounds, the fight was even paused for doctor check up once, and the pause between rounds was prolonged due to Joe Daddy getting his cut fixed.

After claiming he's in better shape than ever, claiming he's been very serious about his diet, training and everything for the past 6 months.

Either he doesn't have the genetics for good stamina and general fitness.

Or he still doesn't take his cardio serious enough.

Just because BJ Penn is from Hawaii, you don't need to act like he's your fcuking lover.  ;D

Read my post. I wrote that BJ didn't get lucky.

My point is simply that BJ Penn still lacks condition and would have trouble with anyone who had better condition and could hold him into the 3rd round.

A guy like GSP don't have to outlast BJ.

But BJ Penn would lose to much less skilled fighters if they just stayed defensive for the first few rounds and went for a TKO when BJ gasses in the 3rd.

I wouldn't call BJ fat. Or out-of-shape.

But his fitness level doesn't match his talent.

Far from it.

If you claim that, you're name is Ray Charles.

He did look blown to be fair but the flipside is that he worked hard all the way through the fight and didnt really let up for a second. BJ has admitted hes been lazy in the past but he looked really sharp IMO and humbled Stevenson with a great display on Saturday.

I said this in another thread but I think because cardio has always been an issue with BJ he will be pushed to his absolute limit against Sherk because that guy can go all day long and in a 5 round title match u have to think the later it goes into a fight the more likely Sherk could take it.

As with a figt with GSP - I dont see it going any otherway than GSP handing him checkup from the neckup to be honest and beating BJ soundly.

Yep.  GSP would soundly defeat him.  He has better striking, hes faster, stronger, and flexible just like BJ.  I truly think GSP is in a league of his own.  (save his bizarre loss to serra)

I guess no one hear has experienced or head of an adrenaline dump.  He dominated a very good and game fighter, and you guys are saying he was out of shape?   ???

We will see when he rematches GSP what happens.

When motivated, and in shape he is a beast.

Ask:

Matt Serra
Gomi
Matt Hughes
Din Thomas
Caol Uno
Duane "Bang" Ludwig
Rodrigo Gracie (185)
Renzo Gracie (185)
Lyoto Machida (205), Where BJ was out of shape, and who BJ gave a better fight than Sokodjou, Bonnar, Ace.
Jens

Yes, he has a problem with motivation, yes, you can question his heart at times.  But like I, and many others have said, when motivated, BJ is one of the best fighters in the world.

Its funny how you say he gassed and out of shape yet he beat a stronger and younger fighter.  Do you guys watch football.  Those guys get tired too.  Have you seen a basketball player after he is taken out of a game he is playing in, they are tired too.  Have you seen a guy run for 10 seconds and after the race, he is tried too.  Have you seen a guy run a sub 4 minute mile, he is tried too, have you seen a guy compete in a marathon after he crosses the finish line, he is tired too, how about the guy who competes in a triathlon, he gets tired too.  You guys are hilarious to say BJ is tired after a fight and then say he is out of shape.

He was emotional after his win.  He, Randy are the only people to hold belts in two weight classes.  He even said "HI Randy."  After he domolished Hughes the first time, he was emotional and distraught as well.  Guess he wasn't in shape for that, too.

i always love when i hear people try to use the term "if only he would of" like with joe daddy, if only he would of lasted into another round he would of won b/c bj looked tired?

or even when liddell fought tito second time, if only tito would of made it into later rounds b/c of chucks cardio, point is THEY DIDNT MAKE IT. why b/c they got there asses busted up

just like the guy that said bj's elbow RESCUED him? are you serious bj brought it hard the whole time 100%, those elbows where beautiful, he was pinning joes wrist down to side to open up the face and using that beautiful small circle sweep of the eblow to get in, to me joe was out classed im sorry to say

on another note, bj looked to b in great shape, his arms even looked huge and his delts looked huge.........not saying you cant attain that naturally and he says hes beein training like a new man, i just dont want to see the same situation as sherk

A huge congratulations goes out to BJ Penn!

Aponte Training Systems has been conditioning BJ since the Pulver fight. He's in better shape now than he's ever been and we hope to see him go 10 rounds with Sean Sherk in May. He's really turned his life around with training and is living life as a professional. Get ready, this is a new BJ Penn.

Also check out our new heavyweight Heath Herring (The Texas Tornado) going up against Cheick Kongo March 1st.

Who are you and how did you train him ?

I think his name is Tony Aponte.  I met him several times at BJ's gym.  He was training him with weights and cardio.  He also trained Ronnie Coleman and some others I think too.

I'm Aponte Training's Web Master 'The Web Godfather'. I talked with Tony a few minutes ago and of course he remembers who you are. We're heading back to Hawaii to train BJ for Sherk, but Tony wanted me to get you a message.

Penn was dominating.

He didn't let Daddy get his game going, he just applied his game relentlessly from the start.
