Maintaince of muscle during military
« on: January 22, 2008, 08:36:29 PM »
Any tips to share to maintain muscle mass and keep bodyfat levels in check during military training in camps?

I would be enlisting soon due to the need to fufill compulsory military service from where i come from.

Will be bringing in few cartons of tuna, oatmeal, whey, bcaas and casein for the 7 week period as the food they serve in the cook houses in camp are just simply atrocious.

Kinda shitty to work hard all these years watching your diet and training your ass off and having to give away those hard earned gains to some compulsory military training :-\

regarding the tuna, oatmeal and casein...

aren't you provided with enough real food? Is it just because you don't like the camp food?

As for supplements, i would say bring along BCAA, Glutamine, some MRPs or a weight gainer with slow carbs, then some fish oil or ALA, another good thing regarding the training the would be creatine and Beta-Alanine.

you say your enlisting soon?? if thats true bro your not allowed to bring anything as fas food...and if you are new and going to basic for 7 weeks are you going to the air force?  regardless good luck and if you are just enlisting now then double check with some people or ask people on here about basic training tips and regimen...

Thanks for the inputs.

I am going in as a new "recruit" and undergoing basic military training in some country in Asia.

They don't exactly call it "boot camp" like in the states, but i would seriously would join the us military camp over my country's camp any given day. Shitty food, irrelevant training, monster waste of  2 years of your life inside.

Did much research before going in regarding policies and stuff. Food is allowed, restricted only to dried food, hence the option of tuna, whey , casein, etc.

I do like the cook house food, who doesn't like junk food  :P Just that i would like to stay on clean food in fear of gaining body fat.

Training regime should be pretty ok i guess, as i have got certain excuses that can help me stay away from physically demanding activities. ;D

Apparently, you missed FLEX's last issue (Jan. 2008)with "Military Muscle". The guy on the inset (an Army Captain) has a full feature on him. Reportedly, he's 6' tall and 205 lbs, at 6% bodyfat. Then there's that Navy Chief (although, he may be retired, by now) who is an IFBB pro, Leo Ingram. I think he's managed to maintain his muscle quite well.

Assuming there are no bans on your nutritional supplements, simply take them in between meals or breaks from training. If anything, you might get to carve yourself up and get ripped.
