Bruised shins after deadlifts...
« on: January 24, 2008, 12:18:09 PM »
I love deadlifts as i really feel it in my back and it is my strongest exercise..........BUT i always get several bruises on both my shins especially when i go heavy (3 to 5 reps).

Its been going on quite a while and i was wondering if that is normal or am i doing the lift wrongly? I am 5'9 and am quite sure that i am lifting right. Should i go to the extend of wearing shin protectors/guards? I don't think bruising on the same spot every week is good for my shin.

or should i should be real HARDCORE and ignore it!  ???

Deal with it.  You're gonna get bruised if you're lifting heavy and keeping the bar close to your body.

I wish I only had bruises.  Bleeding and scarring here, bro.

Get used to it.

You could try not being a little bitch.

Why are you wondering if you are doing it wrong if you are sure you are doing it right?

yeah...i guess it gets even worse for people will are over 6 feet tall. By the way i saw a clip of that castleberry guy deadlifting with a bar and curves away from the body in the middle that avoids contact with the body...but i guess that is too.....non'hardcore? :-*

Exactly.

You could always wear thicker pants, which will help. But reality is, it's still gonna happen. Deal with it.....pretty legs are for women.

I never have problems with my shins on deadlifts - it's when I end up dragging the bar across my knees that it starts to hurt. I love it.

this problem is easily solved by stepping over about a foot to one side or the other so your shins are lined up with smooth parts of the bar, and not the knurling.  be sure to alternate sides with each set though. good luck, let us know how it works out!

Why are your "friends" inspecting your legs so closely anyway?

Stepping a foot to one side??? What excatly do you mean?? i know about the smoothe parts of the bar but one foot to the side?? Won't that be unbalanced?

Don't get bitter that you have shitty genetics for strength.  Dig down deep, work hard, and maybe someday--SOMEDAY--you can deadlift a solid 385 for 5 reps.
