Man keeps fiance on a leash - with her blessing

Dog-lead goths 'hounded off bus'
Tasha Maltby

A goth who leads his girlfriend around with a dog lead and collar was stopped from getting on a bus amid fears for passenger safety, a bus firm confirmed.
Dani Graves, 25, and his fiancee Tasha Maltby, 19, of Dewsbury, West Yorks, claim they have been discriminated against by bus firm Arriva Yorkshire.

The black-clad couple said they had been told to leave one bus and prevented from boarding another.

The bus firm said safety came first, but it was investigating the complaint.

Mr Graves told BBC Look North: "We're used to strange looks, we're used to comments.

"But we didn't expect it from someone like that. They're providing a public service. We had our bus passes, we did everything that you are supposed to do to get on a bus."

Miss Maltby said she came up with the idea to wear a dog lead, and said previous boyfriends had called her a "weirdo" when she suggested it.

She's very animal like, she's kind of like a pet, as well as a partner

The couple said they "loved each other to pieces" and the use of the lead was a "sign of trust".

Mr Graves said: "She's very animal like, she's kind of like a pet, as well as a partner."

He said he "does everything" for his girlfriend, including laying out clothes for her, feeding her and cleaning their house.

He said: "You wouldn't expect your cat or dog to do the washing up or cleaning round the house."

Firm apology

Bus operator Arriva claimed other passengers could be put at risk if the bus braked sharply.

Operations director for Arriva Yorkshire, Paul Adcock, said: "Arriva takes any allegation of discrimination very seriously and have interviewed the driver regarding Mr Graves' claims.

"Our primary concern is passenger safety and while the couple are very welcome to travel on our buses, we are asking that Miss Maltby remove her dog lead before boarding the bus.

"It could be dangerous for the couple and other passengers if a driver had to brake sharply while Miss Maltby was wearing the lead."

The company said it was writing to Mr Graves "to apologise for any distress caused by the way this matter was handled".

I dunno, I kinda like it.  :D  If two people want to do what they want, then why not do what they want?

But not on a bus.  :)

Women have been keeping men on a leash since the dawn of time.
I see no reason to discriminate against a man who does the same just because this leash is visible.  ;)

slap my ass and call me Fido  ;D

I'm thinking if it was her suggestion and he's willing she got lucky !!
He does "everything" for her , I wonder what that'd be like   ::)
I think the risk associated to others is less than second hand smoke.

I can't see where braking sharply in a bus would cause any harm to others from her wearing odd jewelry ?
Are they more likely to get whipleash ?

You are mostly missing the point, unfortunately.  I can't find the news story to post here verbatim, but will do my hearsay version.  I read it in the weekend papers...

They attempted to get on the bus, making a huge song and dance.  The bus driver, who couldn't be bothered, said "Look we don't allow dogs and we don't do freaks, so get off"

They then went to the newspapers to get their £20,000 for a front-page story.

Trouble is, they live in a council flat on benefits and will probably procreate.  Surely that makes you wonder what the world is coming to?  I've had enough political correctness already.

On the one hand, I'm so pleased that two odd people were both able to find their soulmate.  Let them live in peace if they're working and paying their own way and not bothering anyone.

But on the other hand, it turns out they are not.  They expect us to pay for their choice of lifestyle and I think using up taxpayers money to live in a decidedly strange way and then for them to go to the News of the World for a payoff when they come up against a sane bus driver is madness.  That bus driver probably makes £15,000 a year and he was just doing his job...

They were probably concerned that a sudden stop would get her choked or someone else.

She should of laid on the floor in a "stay" and everything would of been fine.
