BAD NEWS FOR UFC
« on: January 27, 2008, 05:47:06 AM »
Not sure if this was posted yet but here you go.....

Xyience, a Las Vegas energy drink company that gained a lot of notoriety as a major sponsor of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Chapter 11 protection asks for protection from creditors while the company tries to reorganize.

Popular Mixed Martial Arts news site MMA News Desk has confirmed that Xyience reported a staggering $42.3 million in liabilities and only $5.3 million in assets. Xyience sells its energy drink through a reported 230 convenience and grocery stores. The voluntary bankruptcy petition, which was filed last Friday, follows an involuntary petition that was filed January 3 by a group that was reportedly lead by Xyience founder and former CEO Russell Pike.

Not surprising at all. Of all the energy drinks out there, I have never found a Xyience drink at any gas station in my entire area. You can't simply put them in GNC and a few others and expect to be successful.

I don't think it is that bad of news. Now in the center of the Octagon, instead of Xyience, you see HARLEY DAVIDSON!!! I would say that is a step up....

at this stage its no biggie for ufc, if it happend some years ago it might've hurt them
but now theyre so publically known they should have no problem getting regular bigtime sponsors

There are 5,426 "energy" drinks on the market now, so its no suprise Xyience could not hang. I'm sure this has little impact on the UFC's bottom line.

Not surprising.  They had a weak distribution strategy and no one on board with any real experience in the beverage category.  This is good news for any other beverage company that wants to step up and become a strong MMA/UFC sponsor...

I think Monster should step in, plus they could keep with the green idea with Mickeys.
