Not much talk here about what's going on with the weather in parts of China, but here is a link

24 dead now. Worst blizzard in 50 years and it's not over yet. Snow is piling up.

i wouldnt for a second doubt they are not reporting this in the media

'they' have increased the frequency via the asteroid entering our magnetosphere

we are evolving and its causing destruction. only a glimpse of whats to come

this is normal - it happens due to the magnetospheric changes.  a meteor flew by.  It was about the same distance away as the moon.  it carries with it a very large charge, and we all knew there would be weather effects.

Right about now, the bands of it are hitting us worst.  Earthquakes were up a bit lsat night (from 2 to 4-5 on the R scale), and yeah, it is cold all over the world.  Dropped 50 degrees in some areas.

To those with a brain (who don't follow NBC for all their news), we knew this was coming.  There isn't anything to be alarmed about - certainly not to be saying it's the end of the world.  It's an effect of the meteor, period.  In 3 days, weather will be back to normal.

Your real concern should be with the TV news.  No mention of the meteor until the last minute.  NASA took it off their website.  Removed from yaoo news for 2 weeks prior.  Now, there is a cold streak due to it, and some people weren't prepared.  It's because people will panic of course.  And threads like these, while informative - you have to be careful not to try to panic people.

Since I posted the above a few days ago the PHA list has been updated. Asteroid 2007 TU24 is now calculated to be 27% closer to the orbital path of the Earth.

the MOID for TU24 is now 0.00098 AU instead of .00124995 AU. This means that the asteroid is calculated to reach a distance of 146,000km of Earth's orbital path.

But wait! This page claims a distance of .00096 AU. (This website is the Catalina Sky Survey, the astronomers who discovered the asteroid.)

But here's the thing...

They already know what the Earth's orbit is going to be. Obviously, they don't know that much about TU24. How could they possibly change the MOID but keep the same miss distance? Are they saying the asteroid will be 27% closer to our orbital path than previously calculated but somehow maintain the same speed and distance as in previous calculations?

What will the next update say?

It passed us last night at about 330 AM.

these effects are normal.  Astronomy websites and forums all over the world detailed this.  It's going to be cold.  There could have been large electromagnetic problems - web, power down, etc - but we seem to have dodged that.

Perhaps the media isn't talking about them so people dont make a rush on food/supploes.  Perhaps its because ppl care more about britneys slut kid sister than they do about science.  Perhaps its because they just didn't know the path of this thing.  Because they didn't.  The data changed nonstop.

Remember - this is normal.  Another meteor is buzzingMars tomorrow, and that may have effects too.

If it helps - a meteor came closer last year, and we didn't know about it until two weeks AFTER when we finally noticed.  one day (it's inevitable) a meteor will surprise us and will take out mankind, just as it did with the dinosaurs.  We may never see it coming.  So enjoy your day, have some ice cream, and watch American Idol.

well this planet is under quarintine by the hexagram we are trapped here until they get there 144,000 to go to the crystal city. you must be purified to ascend with water

Scientists say asteroid may hit Mars
By ALICIA CHANG, AP Science Writer

LOS ANGELES - Mars could be in for an asteroid hit. A newly discovered hunk of space rock has a 1 in 75 chance of slamming into the Red Planet on Jan. 30, scientists said Thursday.

"These odds are extremely unusual. We frequently work with really long odds when we track ... threatening asteroids," said Steve Chesley, an astronomer with the Near Earth Object Program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The asteroid, known as 2007 WD5, was discovered in late November and is similar in size to the Tunguska object that hit remote central Siberia in 1908, unleashing energy equivalent to a 15-megaton nuclear bomb that wiped out 60 million trees.

Scientists tracking the asteroid, which is halfway to Mars, initially put the odds of impact at 1 in 350 and increased the chances this week after analyzing the data. Scientists expect the odds to diminish again early next month after getting new observations of the asteroid's orbit, Chesley said.

"We know that it's going to fly by Mars and most likely going to miss, but there's a possibility of an impact," he said.

If the asteroid does smash into Mars, it'll likely aim near the equator close to where the rover Opportunity has been exploring the Martian plains since 2004. The robot is not in danger because it lies outside the impact zone. Speeding at 8 miles a second, a collision would carve a hole the size of the famed Meteor Crater in Arizona.

In 2004, fragments of the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 smacked into Jupiter, creating a series of overlapping fireballs in space. Astronomers have yet to witness an asteroid impact with another planet.

"Unlike an Earth impact, we're not afraid, but we're excited," Chesley said.

Motherfukin' meteors!!! People in Florida are up to their assholes in alligators and your worried about fuking asteriods? Fuck asteriods, meteors, and space rocks...........fuck em all. Lets start shooting our nukes into space at them for giggles and shits, not using them for anything else anyway except to scare other countries. I gaurantee you........we start shooting at meators with our nukes the world will know we are some crazy assed rednecks and will leave us the fuck alone.

metaphor (n)
a figure of speech in which an expression is used to refer to something that it does not literally denote in order to suggest a similarity

Morality has nothing to do with it. Earth, while not sentient, is essentially an organism; a very delicate balance. We came along and extracted resources while poisoning the air and water. We've scarred the land with mining, deforestation, landfills, pesticides, and all manner of industrial waste. "Mother Nature" has a way of finding balance. "She" will find a way to cast off "her" parasites to allow "her" wounds to heal.

Can anyone explain why there is no explanation (from NASA) for the MOID to change 27% closer toward each other (TU24 and Earth) and yet the miss distance and velocity remain constant.

I am quoting from another forum, but this is the best answer that I've found:

"In the case of TU24 orbit and Earths orbit the best way to explain it is like this. Earth ride along at 0 degree plane. TU24 is on 'roughly' a 45 degree plane in relation to Earth. Earth and TU24's velocity is constant. Miss Distance is the closest point the two objects get to each other. The miss distance in the case of these two objects was calcualted to be 1.4 Lunar Distance.

Here is where things get fuzzy. A some point in past 10 days or so the orbital path of TU24 was slid inward 27% towards Earth and the velocity was not changed! So here comes TU24 and the orbital path it follows is determined to be 27% closer to Earths orbital and there is no change of velocity yet the miss distance reamins constant. It just does not work that way.

Here is an experiment you can do to understand. Take two hoola hoops and mark a point on each representing Earth and TU24. Now place the hoola hoops and in such a manner that each point marked is at the point of Miss Distance. Now slide the hoola hoop that represents TU24 inward by 27%. Did the miss distance remain the same?

When NASA changed the MOID by sliding TU24's orbital path closer to Earth and kept the velocity of TU24 constant the miss distnce must be recalculated. NASA did not do this. They left the miss distance the same. Which is flawed data. "

Bottom line: we are getting flawed data. So something is happening......now.....a nd our immediate attention is quite important!

Anybody who really believes that the human race could really kill our own planet is on some really goooooooooooooooood shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittt. Oh sure mankind can liter and poisen a few streams but quess what? Everything that mankind has made ever in the history of the world came from guess where? That's right Motherfukin' earth. Out of the soil and back into the soil, everything is biodegradable, some shit just takes a little longer.
Mount Saint Helen's when it blew it's top off put out more toxins in one day than the entire human race since the dawn of the industrial age. Go figure.

the electromagnetism and plasma fluctuations effect you in an unexplainable way. they dont reveal the whole story. humans can only veiw a certain perspective of light around 30 frames a second and do not realize that an actual light bulb flickers at a faster pace than the human eye can perceive

Yes - this was SIX DAYS AGO.
The data was incomplete, and it changed hourly.  You have two objects moving very fast, and it's very hard to estimate their paths.  They nailed it to a very close estimate, but it changed frequently in that last week as more and more observatories tracked it.  I was nervous, but hey, what can you do?

NASA followed it but didn't release their info the last day, which was odd.

i find it hard to believe the human sees in FRAMES   i belueve its wave lengths  for example we can not see ultraviolet light
