Longest Competitive Bodybuilder (Pro and Amateur)

I think that this was covered earlier but I cannot find the subject post at present, so I'll start this one in the hopes that some of you guys can set the record straight.

I believe that the one amateur bodybuilding competitor who has been competing for the longest period of time is JAMES HAMPTON. (Since the late 70's I believe.)

Here's a relatively recent photo of James at some Master's Contest taken off the Repetrope Muscle Video site. (Thanks).

I saw James compete when he was much younger and was always super impressed but he never managed to win one of the nationals back then.

Anyone have any old day photos taken of James to post on here? Or any info on whom has consistantly competed for a longer period of time?

I think he never placed higher in most of his contests was because he simply refused to become a "Bulky Blunder" as my nephew likes to describe the pros.

I`ve done a few contests with Hampton...should have won his pro-card years ago IMO.

And thanks for that list of long time competitors. The only one I know on that list personally is Rusty Jeffers and his wife but I didn't realize that he had been around so long. It was a pleasure talking to them both a month or so after he lost that contest to Bob Chick and they were both very polite about that decision.

i would say dennis wolf is probably more like 6 foot 1 or so, so that is tall

i would consider 5 foot 8 avg for a bodybuilder

5 foot 5 and under guys shouldn't even be allowed to compete, there midgets with a chip on there shoulder, see lee preist

Dennis is 181 CM which is 5'11.3.  I think he looks so tall due to structure.  His waist is small so visually we tend to follow physiques like that up via the pronounced taper, and his arms are more fitting of a person who is 6'2.  You could guess by looking at him in pictures he is no shorter than 5'11 and no taller than about 6'1.  Some physiques are harder to gauge in this respect.

Thanks Stunt.........I was in a different weight class than Hampton was.

The  contests I was in with him were the NPC Masters Nats.......... years 2000,2001,and 2005.

He always looked great,almost as if he was unbeatable,but was as pale as a ghost........I think this held him back,plus he could have been a bit drier.

When he won the pro-card he had a great tan (color) and was in his best shape ever conditioning wise.

At the other contests,I don`t think he even used Pro-Tan....just had a slight natural tan which really washed out all of his muscularity under the bright lights.
