You might not want to go after a company until you have had some success on the stage. However, you might talk to small health food business owners in your area ( they carry supps ) or the owner of a pharmacy ( they too carry supps and protein ) and ask for private sponsorship. Do it professionally, set up a meeting, wear a suit, take some pics of you in shape and have a clearly defined objective for yourself.

You mighty be supprised at how responsive these people will be.

In order to get sponsored, you first have to get noticed first.

My buddy got a local Vitamin World to sponsor him for his first two shows.
After placing 1st and 2nd respectively, he was contacted by NPC and BSN to possibly do some photography/modeling work with them.

These were not the types of endorsement deals that the likes of Cutler and Coleman enjoy, but it was nice to get some free product, exposure and other little perks.

Sorry but you're absolutely wrong, bro and that is the worst way to go about it.  Getting contracts has nothing to do with your physique as they are a dime a dozen.  Here's how you do it

The best information on this is Joe Weider's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding.  In the chapter of sponsorship deals, he states to first get a portfolio of pictures especially ones with any trophies or titles that you have next to you.  You then would send a full portfolio and fitness resume to every fitness and bodybuilding magazine and small publications.  Afterwards, you simply wait and see.

Once you are offered a chance at a photoshoot, then hop your ass on a plane and do it even if it doesn't pay anything.  Once you're in the magazine, get some of the negatives and copies of the magazine and THEN send it over to every supplement company available.  Address everyone to "Public Relations" to insure the right people see it.

If you cannot get your picture in a magazine, submit your photos to a local newspaper or health newsletter and write some health tips and generally they will be more than happy to use it.  Then submit that to every supplement company.  You'll get lower offers but once you get the offer, build on it.

Its all detailed in Joe Weider's Encyclopedia.  None of this information is mine.

Besides, unless you're a pro, why would you want a contract.  Most Amatuers don't get paid a dime and only get supplements

amateurs can do well, even if only for a few hundred a month or free product.

If you are an amateur, and you agree to do a few photo shoots and some appearances, and you get all your whey for free for a year.... it's well worth it!

Go to teh conventions, and not "the Arnold Classic" but the big retailer health food expos, thats where all the shakers and movers of the supp business are, because they want to land big corp accounts.  Have a photo and resume, and look your best.  Also, have a personality...being able to bench 800 lbs means NOTHING if you cant form a complete sentence.  Actually, its THE most important thing.  Even more important than having your picture in a  magazine.  MOST pros have no contract at all as it is.

Hit each booth at the convention, ask for who is in charge, and SELL yourself.  Stand in front of the corporate person and tell them what you can do for them!

Most BB's think they are just going to get a check and be paid to work out because they are big.  This is delusional.  No supplement company will pay you $.01 unless they can make $.02 off of you.  If you are a fat slob who cant form a complete sentence....forget it!

Sending in a letter/photo is a waste of time.....EVERYONE does that, itll end up in a pile with the rest......calling in?  Too easy to be hung up on.

Be ready to go the extra mile to get that 'contract'....

This is very true.  I have a friend that was the first cover model for Women's Fitness (the Weider mag) and she looked great but had a very rude mouth and was just plain horrible with people.  She never did a thing after that.  One thing that got me so much was because I could talk to EVERYONE very easily.  I bond with everyone I do business with no matter what their age.  I was lucky cause I also had the look.
