Awesome, I've always thought the same thing  ;D

I don't despise law enforcement. You must admit that most do a good and thankless job....the bad apples concentrated on by the media to seem ubiquitous.

I would imagine the kid who kept calling the officer "Dude"...has no supervision at home...or, parent(s) who don't give either a shit or discipline.

He was taught no respect...thus does not give any...to anyone.

The cop may have overdone it...but likely after having to put up with wanton disrespect from kid after kid/ punk after punk.

Really?

The last police officer who gave me a hard time I told to go FUCK HIMSELF and promptly informed him I would be contacting my lawyer about him the next day, which I did.

Police are paid to protect the constitution, not violate it.  If they violate it, they are no better than scum - sub 90 IQ scum who are unable to question any objective the federal government gives them.

Hi Officer Rivieri

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

No...its Dr. Dusa.

And these kids get waht is coming to them when they cannot show respect.

At University I teach at, I hate toi pick, and maybe this is a cultural thing...the hispanic students, almost to a fault....call me..."Dusa".

Not Mike.

Not Michael.

Not Asshole.

Not Mr. Dusa.

Not Dr. Dusa

No, they take the most disrespectful and devaluaing choice, and simply 'call me out' by using the distancing and de-heierarching route...the old last name.

Well, I told them that, where I come from, calling one by their last name only meant that we wuz gonna have to go outside and throw down. They laughed nervously at this. But, I can still say most of them still address me this way.

Keep it up, and you will soon see them on the 6 o'clock news, whining how they can't find a job...poor babies.

With all due respect, if I am paying you to teach me, I will call you whatever I want and you have to realize I am the customer and you are working for me, not the other way around.

And almost 100% of the time, I have enough respect for my professors to address them as they want me to.  But don't be confused who is making that choice and who is accepting it no matter what I decide.  I can only think of two professors I ever had who I have 0 respect for and would never address by any formal name.  All the others, I would address by their preference.  But I am making that choice, not being told I have to do it.

Sorry...you are wrong here.

At least at my American university...YOU do not decide. YOU would be thrown out of class at my school if you had shown such insolence. There would be no choice. That is why you are the student and the professor is the professor.

Sure...it may be different where you are from, and that is fine. But not here.

Unfortunately, America is rapidly turning into a 3rd world country. The civilized races, are being outbred and our borders are under siege. Too bad nothing will be done about it.

Sure, a lot of cops are assholes, no doubt..but imagine you're a cop that has to work the "Hood". Imagine having to deal with all these ignorant, crack dealing, retard-spawning, jibberish-spewing , riot starting, neighborhood destroying sub-humans. Might  probably turn You into a bit of an asshole too.

Scott Alexander does not: A. Deal crack B. Spawn illegitamate future prison inmates C. Murder people over an X-Box D. Collect Welfare checks E. Blame society for his failures   Scott Alexander- A. Builds financial Empires B. Inspires millions with his posessions and business prowess C. Has a ripped physique

Sure...it may be different where you are from, and that is fine. But not here.

Well, no...that is why I pay you and I am the customer and you are the worker.  I call you what I feel you deserve to be called.  If a professor insisted I call him by a title, I would probably not do it just to demonstrate that it is in fact my choice.  Respect isn't awarded automatically, it is earned.  If you are in fact a cool dude, I would call you doctor, but if you were a disrespectful person, I definitely would not.  So the question is - do you earn the respect of your students?  Are you a respectable person who deserves to be called by his appropriate title?  You tell me.  Only two professors I have I did not call by their title, or call Sir.  But my point is that it was my choice to call all of my professors what I wanted to call them, not because I was forced to do it.  Forcing respect is dangerous, because then you have fat scum like Rivieri assuming that they can get respect when they don't deserve it.  I'm sure you can see how that is wrong of him.  I would call him fat pig and if he hit me like he hit that kid he would be seeing stars.

And what happened tough guy?  What did your lawyer tell you? On another note, do you realize that you come off as a total douche bag.  Seriously...a douche bag

You can call me a douche bag, you can call me whatever you want.  My point is that I do what I want when I want and anyone else is a guest in my reality.  I don't call a person "Sir" if I don't feel like it.  People earn the respect I give them, and you will find I am one of the most respectful people you've ever met, if you indeed are worthy of that respect.  If not, forget about it.

By the way, what good does it do to pretend you respect someone when you don't?  ???

The coolest professor I had basically insisted his students call him by his first name.  He was awarded the honour of "popular professor" in Macleans annual survey of universities in Canada.  Forcing someone to call you by a rank doesn't mean they actually respect you, so what's the point?  If they truly respect you, they will gladly call you "Dr." or "Sir" when you request that they do.  :)

What's the point of demanding fake respect from students when the truth comes out on the site above anyway?

Officer Rivieri strikes again >:(

My favorite "suspended with pay"...translation: long vacation sucking your tax dollars
This guy is obviously an utter douchebag.  He's on the police force for 17 years and has got no higher than "patrol boy" of a park in Baltimore...haha, what a clown.  Probably has a bad case of "small penis syndrome", going around acting tough to every kid he comes across..."demanding" respect, meanwhile, he probably falls short in so many areas of life...haha, epic loser there. ;) ;D
Usually, people who go around screaming and "pushing their weight" around, are amongst the most unhappy people on earth...makes you laugh when you think about it. ;D  I can count the number of times I've screamed on one hand...my entire life.  Get a grip on your fucking emotions...haha

I don't always agree with "Matt C." but you have to admit he's a smart guy who states his arguments in a clear and well thought out manner.
