Roger Clemens could be going to jail on perjury charges!
« on: February 22, 2008, 12:11:27 PM »
According to Sports illustrated:

According to the New York Daily News, federal investigators have a picture provided by a young man who was at the now infamous Jose Canseco house party in 1998 that reportedly shows definitively that another guest was there: Roger Clemens.

Clemens testified under oath both in a deposition to Congressional staffers and in a hearing before the House Oversight Committee that he did not attend the party, as alleged by his ex-trainer Brian McNamee, who has accused Clemens of taking steroids and HGH. Clemens has denied those allegations repeatedly.

"We have reason to believe it's reliable evidence," Richard Emery, one of McNamee's attorneys, told the Daily News on Thursday. "We believe there's photographic evidence that shows Clemens was at a party he says he wasn't at."

The party was hosted by Canseco for his Toronto Blue Jays teammates and their families at his Miami home during June of 1998, when the Jays were in town for a series agains the Florida Marlins. McNamee has stated that he saw Clemens at the party talking with Canseco, an admitted steroid user, and that some time after the party, Clemens made his first inquiry to McNamee about using steroids.

Mcnamee's lawyer is convinced that Bush will padron Clemens no matter what.

Both texas republicans, both baseball men, and good friends.

The way he purgered himself during that hearing should have been enough to hook his ass up right then and there. But the way that one dude from Indiana (and I'm ashamed to say he was a republican) was slobbering all over Clemens, he should have just givin him his ring to the hall right there.

good call.

it's completely idiotic to have this trial in the first place, as I doubt Congress' time should be spent on whether one guy got 3 shots of hgh, 6 years ago.

but it's more idiotic to lie.  under oath.  pettite admitted to it, and he ain't going to jail.  Being a multimillionaire, retiring a legend and living the good life wasn't enough for clemens... he had to try to lie.

Wasn't that team nearly bankrupt just before he sold it?  I wouldn't exactly call him a baseball man

If roger took HGH ( which i think he did), and if he lied under oath ( which he did), he has to get into the hall of fame for being the dumbest mofo on the planet during the baseball steroid era.

the guy is a multimillionaire as he is, he is making more money than he can spend as he  alredy is and already has in his bank account. So who cares if he doesnt get into the hall of fame in 10 yrs. by then  he's not playing anymore.  But to jeopordize your entire life's worth of money, all this hard work, and eventually end up going to jail cuz you fucking lied??? thats stupid if you ask me.

yes it is stupid to the rational person.  but you have to understand the mentality that we are dealing with here.  he is so arrogant that he thinks he can outsmart and out lie everyone.  his ass has been kissed for so long and has nothing but "yes men" hanging around that he actually beleives his own lies.

yeah, but he loves the game and goes to games, throws out pitches, has teams to the white house, and calls himself a huge fan.  he owned the team a while and attended a lot of games, i'm guessing he loves some baseball.

Good point. The funny(!?) thing is the HoF is chock-a-block with alcoholics, racists, drug users, etc. Why they are so concerned with this stuff now is a crock. When I go the park, I wanna see monster homeruns and amazing fielding. I don't give a rat's ass that they are juiced, etc. The new puritan America, I guess.   :-\

This is what I wrote on another forum during that time.........

I personally took time out of my schedule this morning to watch the entire hearings and thought it was going to be just another ho hum hearing, but I gotta tell you it was really riviting. I have a personal intrest in these hearings because 1. I train athletes, kids, high school, college and professional and 2. One of my athletes was named in the Mitchell report and we watched it together.

Aside from that, it was, IMO complete bullshit and I said right from the get go as soon as Clemens denied in public that he NEVER used drugs that he opened a can of worms and he would eventually ruin himself......he did. He stumbled his words, contradicted his testamony and essentually buried himself and opened himself up for further investigation.

But what really pisses me off more than anything, is the complete ignorance of drugs on the part of everyone involved in this fiasco. Granted, this is about purgery, I get it, but these congressmen and women haven't a clue on what is written when they were presenting "scientific data" on the effects of B-12, steriods or hgh. One congressman has the BALLS to ask Clemens if he alzheimers referring to the reasons why he was injected with B-12....for Christ's sake he taking studies that were done with elderly people and the general public....not athletes, you can't compare the two.

One other thing that pissed me off is part of this hearing was about only a few injections..NOT a few cycles, if it IS true that it was only a FEW injections over a period of time, it would vertually have NO effect on performance or recovery. I heard an interview with someone who said that Pettite said the reason why he took it was for recovery, ok, fine, I get that, but he went on to say (and I'm paraphrasing) "I took HGH because if I hadn't I wouldn't have struck out as many batters if I did not take it!). If that is truly what he said and he claimed to have only taken a few injections (not cycles) it wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference.

Bottomline, IMO Clemens lied and for the record, 70-80% of the league from single A to the Big's are on something. Also, if they want to go after the next victom.......look no further than A-Rod.

I am unsure about bankruptcy...but it was worth far more than when he bought it

here is my take on all those involved in the recent roid scandels.

1. The media - I am in shock they are shocked. This steroids in  sports issue is old news for those of us in/around the world of muscle building. It is all over blown hype and more misinformation.

2. Congress- They want the truth and then  punish those that tell it. Good for a witch hunt but not very effective in getting to a real, practical solution. Why are they even looking into this. We have a war we should not have gotten in to and an energy crisis and housing market in free fall and these clowns want to worry about some baseball player shooting up some roids....pathetic.

3. The fans- The all cheer when the y see performances made possible only by UNnatural means. Then they act outraged when they learn the guys used less than natural means to acomplish these feats.Pretty sad.

4. the pro athletes- They break the federal drug laws and in some cases rules of their sport and then act like
"why are you bothering me" when they get busted. Did they really think that everyone would ignore them breaking all the rules and laws on drugs ? c'mon they had to know a hard rain would fall.

5. The owners and sports admin- Talk about a bunch of tools acting like they had no idea. what BS!

How many parties did Canseco host in 1998?

Something tells me that the answer is not 'just one'.

Pete Rose should have turned on baseball and all MLB players when he was kept down for gambling.  He could have kept it real then and pointed out the nasty roid problem players have...hahah  Completely irrelevant to gambling, but would have gotten a laugh.

he was on a local sports radio show today and they asked him about the juice thing and he said he saw absolutely no evidence of it when he managed from 84-89, i find that a little hard to believe especially considering that a few of the characters he was hanging around with this betting thing hung around Gold's Gym in Cincinnatti and were into bodybuilding but that doesn't take away from the fact that he should be reinstated into baseball and elected into the HOF.

Coach,

you are right on everything there.

For me, the minute Clemens said "If I had used steroids, my tendons would have turned to dust and I would have grown a 3rd arm out of my head" on 60 minutes, i knew he was lying.

He was regurgitating the general public's misconception of steroids in an exaggerated way.  It was so insulting.  A pro athlete knows damn well what steroids do.
