Finally saw American Gangster
« on: February 23, 2008, 05:12:50 AM »
I thought it was awful. On the DVD I rented it had two versions so we watched the unrated uncut one. It was 2 hours and 45 minutes of pure boredom. Maybe I should have watched the theatrical version, at least it was probably edited. Did you guys like the movie?

It was OK at best.  It was based on a true story so that made it a bit more interesting.  Defiantly not one of either Denzel's or Crowe's best.  I don't mind if a movie is long but at least make it good.

I thought it was one of the better movies I had seen.

BTW, anyone seen Jumper? That was a good movie.

I just watched it last night. I thought it was very good ;D I like movies based on true stories though, always makes them more intense thinking that stuff actually happened.

Good, but I didn't pay $10 to see it in the theater. Buddy of mine had a copy of the DVD two days before it came out! ;D

My favorite part of the movie, definitely, was where he bashed the guys in with the piano!!! :-X

The movie in itself lacks tempo, the script could've been made a little tighter probably.

But Denzel has never been better IMO. Too bad he's this good in a not so very good movie, it kinda takes away from his performance.

And Crowe is awesome as usual.

If you got the DVD, look at a few scenes with Denzel again, and I think you will agree that his acting is absolutely brilliant.

Using small gestures, but still getting through.

Very impressive IMO.

I've never seen it, nor do I care to.

Danielson, have you seen Running Scared? Not with Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal, but the Paul Walker flick...

I think Crowe is a decent, but not a great actor.
Denzel was great and the story itself is good, but the script is kinda fucked up.

Should have just focussed on the Denzel character, not the "cop". But i think Crowe wanted more lines and screen-time till he was equal with Denzel. Originally he even wanted to play the black guy  ::).

Crowe and Denzel are what made that movie good.

They are both great in every movie. Russel has come a long way since he did Virtuosity with Denzel in 1995.
