2014 Olympia - Keeping it real at the Mr Olympia... a challenge.
« on: February 25, 2008, 05:47:59 PM »
For anyone planning on bringing a video camera and interviewing people at the Arnold Mr O...

Bring a small electronic scale.  Get one from walmart for $25.  Keep it handy in a backpack or whatever.
List the outrageous weight claims of pros, including those competing at the ASC and not.

One-by-one, meet them on camera, shake hands, ask a few fluff questions, ask what they're weighing, allow them to feed some bullshit number about "cruising at 290 right now", then..

Whip out the scale, place it on the groun and ask the bodybuilder to step on it

Let's see which pros are liars and which are keeping it REAL.   On Camera.

Useless. Why would they step on the scale if they are lying?

Then they will have to look into the camera and mumble their way through an excuse.

Instant classic moment.  Deer in headlights.

how about a challenge of not doing a thumbs up pose for a picture.  I think they will just look at the camera in confusion and still do the thumbs up.

And the moment of "zooming in on the pro's face when fanboy interviewer suddenly dares him to step on the scale" would be priceless.

And there will be a few pros who walk the walk, and they'll get props forever for it.

I think some renegade team should do it.  it could be the story of the expo.  Get them to give you a NUMBER first.  Repeat it.  "Really?  280?  Seriously?" then your partner puts the scale down, you zoom in on his face, and ask him to step on the scale.

Could be beautiful, man.

That's the challenge right there.  Tell them you have NO desire to have your oil checked so they should put that thing away...immediately.

PLease...this was the catalyst that prompted Lonnie Teper to have a weigh in at the Ironman a few years back, and to quite a surprise of the fans...the weights were pretty much right on the money of what the athlete claimed...

Bob, please note that my challenge included all athletes, "including those competing at the ASC and not".

It's the guys at the tables who will tell the biggest fairy tales.  The guys who didn't get an invite to the Arnold.  The trash-talkers who spend the year telling us how big they are, then finishing with a gift 10th at a bottom show.  You know the type.

It's more the "industry goofs" that tell the tales. The pro's for the most part could care less...

You're right.  I cannot recall and pros who made a big deal about the numbers, bragged about the numbers, or tried to wager ten grand with kids on forums...

Yeah sure with 8 lbs of clothes, sneakers, and pockets full of cell phones, pagers, wallets, Ultra fuel and a couple 2.5lb plates.

Why lie about weight?  You look the same no matter what weight you give.

For the same reasons someone would lie about their height......

Because "I weigh 300 pounds and I'm going to come in next year with 30 pounds of new muscle and I'm going to crush you internet idiots with your pencils" is pretty intimidating, isn't it?
