Didnt expect such a dumb remark from Arnie. Most of the pro's dont even got sponsors and struggle to pay the rent. Arnold is great but he should shut the fuck up once in a while.

Considering that Arnold won $1,000 for his first place Olympia wins, and that same placing for the same contest is now around $150,000 plus a car of some sort...

I would say it has grown. Not like football, baseball or even golf, chess or poker....but it's not like the competitors don't know what they're getting into and the money is suddenly plummeting with no end in sight. :-\

That was 40 fucking years ago.

Pro footbal players back then made $30K, today they make $30 million.

Get serious. BBing is a joke.

85% of the "Pro's" LOSE money, those drug cycels are not free.

Holy shit people. Has the sport not grown? Yes it has. Not nearly as much as other real sports, and not as much as it could/should have.
"Huge prize money" is not true, in relation to other sports. But when you look at where it came from...how much were NFL players getting in 1970 when Arnold won the $1000 for his win? What about the other sports? They've grown too, but due to the POPULARITY of them, they grew to far greater heights than BBing, because it's an underground following, not mainstream. Always has been, always will be.

So true, good post.

No sport like bodybuilding will grow like other sports with drugs hanging over it like a black cloud. That will always hold it back from Joe Public accepting it like the major sports and therfore, not nearly the revenue.

BB will always be a freak niche sport  :-\

It's not really the drugs it's more the fact it's not the most entertaining sport. It's not like football or soccer where it could come down to the last minute with a winning try or goal.

Plus it's a freakshow, the ordinary public can't relate to it. I played cricket, soccer and rubgy a bit when i was young so i can watch those sports and relate to them, not that many people train and of those that do, only very very few train to look like a bodybuilder or even compete.

No-one from mainstrem society or business is gonna pump money into a "sport" where all the athletes are clearly on drugs - it'll never happen. Not in our lifetimes anyway.
