Let it go? Your grandpa had to work one friggin job and was able to take care of the entire family: buy a house, put his kids through college, buy a decent-AMERICAN- car, etc.

Your kids (and mine) ain't going to be able to buy jack shit!

You do the math.

I don't manage all of my $$$

I have a larger account that I give to an advisor and against my better judgement I've stayed in the market when I should have been out last October.

Even if I were all cash in that particular account I would take no joy in the melt-down in the markets.

As I've mentioned before - the real problem is the complete breakdown of the credit markets.  This is what's causing most of the current problems (IMO) and I don't see any solution in the near term and it could get a LOT worse.

Well War-Horse, I think it has little to do with wages. It has all to do with wrong policies from the Jurassic period til today. From energy policy to foreign affairs. Not to mention handing the keys of the country's vault to the big corporations. If you criticize this gross mismanagement of our government, the people who MUST respond to us, Americans (and now no longer do,) you're tagged as un-American, so go figure!

sorry you missed my thread on the stock market crash.

i attempted to warn all gbers long before the shit hit the fan.

hopefully..... some got out in time.

I didn't miss it and  I haven't lost that much ( ~ 13% from in equity from it's high point and no loss of principal so far)

I just don't see any reason to gloat over anyones losses.

Besides, these problems will effect everyone in one way or another

All this shit rolls down hill

i'm not gloating over average investors losses. if we assume your statement is correct, i would have never started a thread in Nov warning gbers to get out of the market.

i'm only happy it occurred under george bush's watch. bush had hoped the worst would begin only AFTER he left the white house. most professionals  involved the financial markets (including myself) could see this collapse coming.......the only question was would it happen under the watch of the man who inititated it, or would another president take the blame as bush snuck out the back door scott free ?

bush's "so called" legacy is offically fvcked now and that puts a smile on my face.

It's a bit more complicated but basically I agree with you.  I could have gone flat last October but I acquiesced against my better judgement (in hindsight obviously).  It's no a big deal and this is only one account that is long term in nature.   I manage all short term stuff myself and that has been almost all cash since last year.   It's nothing I'll lose any sleep over.

More to the point of your thread - I don't see the need to take any pleasure in others peoples financial losses.

Also, lot's of people who didn't vote for Bush and didn't get a subprime loan are being harmed.   Also, if you're a US citizen then why would you take pleasure in our shared economic woes?

straw, you're missing my point. read the post again. it's clearly an attack on bush's failed policies and the people who supported him.

btw, i still believe Dow 10,000 is on the horizon. your current 13% loss will double if your inadequate money manager/ advisor takes no action. i could be wrong, but i doubt it.

Wanting people to listen, you can't just tap them on the shoulder anymore. You have to hit them with a sledgehammer, and then you'll notice you've got their strict attention.

I get your point I just doubt that Bush and Co gives a flying fuck and my point is that plenty others who didn't support Bush or do anything to create the current situation are being harmed.  The rain falls on everyone.

Well, that is a bigger picture of a corrupt democratic society and runaway capitialism.

Heres a shocker for me.    Im looking at my paper in the help wanted section. (I use that to see wht the market is doing).    I see bank tellers, warehouse supervisors, auto parts stores, painters, and retail stores hiring.  Now ALL OF THEM are showing $8-10 an hour!!!

Now, In 1977 I was 12yrs old.   My Dad came home and was excited to start a job at a grocery warehouse as a supervisor and the pay was an incredible $10 an hour!!!

He paid $27,000 for our home.  payment around 200 a month.   Had a new truck for less than that.

Now 20 yrs later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Kids starting out and even skilled workers for the same wage and homes are $270,000 for 1500 a month.
Thats a 100X's increase in home for same wage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Capitialism is a failed system if not controlled....that has been proven. :-\

I agree.  Moderated capitalism works.  But 'taking the government off our backs' i.e., deregulation of governmental oversight bureaus, opens the door to corruption, wealth inequality and general misery for the bulk of the public.  That's the hallmark of the Reagan and Bush administrations.

A totally free market unchecked is nothing more than the law of the jungle.  As civilized human beings, we do not want that.

This includes all those supporting the nonsense that anyone can become a millionaire through hard work and income mobility means a better life for all.  That's just the propaganda of exploitation put forth by the monied elites.

Yeah that makes sense, lets fudge the Bush administration with an economic theory.

So I guess in your view a hunter and gathering society works best?

Sorry you feel that hard work does not pay off The system of free trade is better than mercantilism, and it has done a great job for past empires.

Nothing is free and that includes a 'free market' economy.

And socialism is a failure...move then if u don't like it. Nobody would miss u.

Checks and balances.  There needs to be balance between capitalism and socialism, moving moreso towards capitalism.

I don't get all the bitching and moaning about trivial jobs such as retail, warehousing, and manufactoring pay so low.  Obtain an education.  It's as if people have the mindset of others that they cannot go above and beyond your entry level positions.  This isn't 1950 anymore.....you can't be a janitor at a steel mill and expect to buy a house and two cars.  You need to move up the economic ladder and to do so, you need to go to school.  The US doesn't need to manufacture clothes and other simple materials here......instead, one would manufacture and make much more complex items here.  Sadly, even this is going away, rapidly being outsourced to India and China.

Stop blaming everything on the Bush administration.  Blame it on the people instead.  Nobody forced anyone to get adjustable rate 30 year mortgages on overpriced houses, or put 0 down on a $50,000 car, or obtain credit cards left and right.  If people would have saved instead of spending what they don't have to the hilt, we would not be in the kind of predicament we are in now.  People don't have money because they are getting killed by interest and multiple payments on credit cards, mortgages, cars, and other appliances.

This mentality is sick.  Everytime I stop in a major store, after making my purchase, I am always asked if I want to apply for some sort of credit cards.  I get at least 10 offers in the mail each week.  Commercials everywhere tell you to extend your credit limit.  Every car commercial advertises some sort of 0 down, 0 interest offer.  Simple things such as appliances and furniture are also advertised as expecting the buyer to finance them.  We now live in a society where there are more (asshole) consultants, brokers, attorneys, and analysts rather than mechanics, plumbers, and other skilled labor trades.  This easy credit, spend what you don't have, and borrow to the hilt mentality is now in the culture.  Sometimes I feel a bit alienated and am often ridiculed when I state that I do not have debts at all and refuse any kind of loan.  My home is paid for.  My cars are paid for.  My appliances and furniture is paid for.  I have one credit card locked in a safe(many of the nicer hotels require you to have one) used for travel and emergency purposes.

Bottom Line:  If you are in debt, you are not a free man, but a slave.
