I never even knew he had a book called Fantastic!

What page??? Do you know??

Yes. It's by Laurence Leamer. I have the book, and flipped through the portion pertaining to the 1980 Mr. Olympia, and found nothing about what Pellius is talking about.

I tend to buy the Frank Zane reason above anything else, including  Mike Mentzer.

I mean Frank humiliated Arnold on National TV, and Arnold was pissed.

I can see Arnold in my head right now blowing a gasket and thinking "I am going in the O next year and I am going to teach a lesson to Frank Zane"...that is his mentality-he hates to be beaten, even over a stupid interview comment from Zane.

Funny you mentioned that because that is EXACTLY what is stated in the book.

Frank Zane is cocky. No one can doubt that. Arnold was the king and I guess he wasn't pleased that such a small guy was winning the Olympia year after year.

If you look at some of the photos you will see that Arnold dwarfs Frank in chest, calves and arms. Frank places 3rd and perhaps was lucky because he was the reigning champion that year.

There is no way that Arnold would have felt that Frank was his equal on the posing platform or in the gym.

Look at the silly angles taken by the pro photographers. Since the seats were sold long before they arrived they didn't have the best positions available and were under, on the side, or even behind the competitors! Lucky for John Balik that I got him a seat for the finals beside me in the middle of the hall.

Here is the photo I took of Mike. Looked great here and Ironman used it for their cover. I photoshopped the image in the second photo. I will have to get access to the original slides to show even more detail, plus the other competitors.

Roger Walker looked great, and in this pic he goes toe to toe with Arnold on size;

Dennis Tinnero was also around 240 pounds, so Arnold was not the heaviest man that night. Arnold was said to be between 212 and 220 pounds that night. A shadow of his former 230-250 pound self.

True.

In Arnold's rush to get away from the hoard of reporters and everyone else, Maria had lagged behind, chatting with ravenous reporters,,,,"Maria, you stupid bitch, let's get the fuck out of here..."

Gaines had marvelled at the fact that here was Arnold, who, some years earlier, did not have two schillings to rub together, calling a relative of one of the most powerful families in the world a 'stupid bitch'
he is arnold  8) she was lucky he even gave her the time of day  8)

he is numero uno  8)

that probably went through his head again when dexter tried to own him at the arnold. when arnold said he knew dex was a great champ that practiced posing for hours each day, to which dex replied - i never pose, i'm too lazy. arnold looked very angry, but got his own back when he said dex managed to built his body by taking a few pills ;D

Sometimes I ask myself how much of Arnold's mythical status in bodybuilding is the result of his physique, and how much of it is the result of his charisma.

i'd say it's a combination of his physique, hollywood career, bbing career and charisma.

I think we're mesmerized more by his physique rather than his charisma. Don't get me wrong, his charisma is fantastic, but I think most of us train and are inspired by the physique rather than the charisma, no?
