Well, it only makes sens that someone like Arnold would bash Yates. They're worlds apart. Yates is your blue-collar bodybuilder who loves competition for the sake of it and never did much to be marketable. Just get the job done and disappear 'til next time. And his training philosophy was about the same. Incredibly intense, in and out the gym in an hour. No marketing value whatsoever. Arnold, from the start, saw bodybuilding as a stepping stone to achieve grander things. He wanted, and helped, bodybuilding to be glamorous, fashionable, respectable. As his image will be definitely linked to the sport, tell me what Arnold gains from the sport becoming at the same time a subject for hair-splitting specialists (basically bodybuilders watching better bodybuilders) and a freak show for a crowd who just got tired of going to the zoo? 20 years ago, having been a bodybuilding champ looked pretty good on his resume. Soon, it's going to be pretty similar as saying "I was the best curling player out there!". Glamorous!

get a grip... the 90's were the golden era of bodybuilding, the top guys from then will never be bested, they far out shone what was before them and todays losers pale in insignificance ... And despite what some claim, he was king of that decade

Yates is a typical working class british bloke,, all kids from his decade had skinheads, was nothing to do with bein racist.. they just liked goin out, gettn drunk and havin a punch up, just as todays kids do with different haircuts and clothes

Arnold is full of it, his idol when growin up was reg park, who was the biggest bodybuilder at the time,,, he didnt aspire to be a steve reeves, it was huge musculature that excited him... i would put yates in a similar mould to reg park physique wise, not the prettiest, but very impressive

i would say he is right, as far as being a good representative for the sport. dorian was horrible. but, on stage...dorian beats arnold. even with his huge obliques and disgusting biceps.

I would say that's a damn good post.

I think most of us have enormous admiration for Arnold but that doesn't mean everything he says is Gospel.

I don't think that this has anything to do with Dorian beeing a better bodybuilder than Arnold or not. Arnold wouldn't have survived a single session with Dorian. It's just two different perceptions of the sport and what you expect to get out of it. A guy like Dorian is a bodybuilder's bodybuilder. He never needed the approval of anyone outside that circle. Arnold, well, do I need to remind you what's his ambition today?

Arnold is spot on..! That's how Yates generally was; a boring and very interesting Mr. Olympia.

I don't know why the Wieders let him continue to win when there were better and more marketable guys like Nasser, Levrone, Ray and Flex.

Exactly but it's all good anyway as Dorian aimed at those 1% as Arnold did at those 99%. The only thing is Arnold could never understand why you would choose the path Dorian chose.

There is a statement out there were Arnold states to a reporter that he looks down on ANYONE who ever waits in a line or complains about anything...Something like those types of people are beneath me...I love Arnold the bodybuilder, but it doesn't take a genius to realise that Arnold is one of the most passive aggressive people to walk the planet...Very dangerous man...

The Kennedy fortune was made by bootlegging tons and tons of alcohol when alcohol was illegal in the states...Which means its all dirty money...And many many regular folks and those in law enforcement were killed by this Kennedy money...That is one of the reasons karma is coming back at the Kennedy's IMOP...Yet people like Arnold and millions and millions of other people across the globe believe that the Kennedy's are some kind of Kings or Queens...They are all sociopaths, as are the Clintons...

The truth is you have to be fucked in the head to not understand that this family is a freaking joke...And to want to be part of somethng like them shows that you to are messed in the head...And that was Arnold's goal many many years ago...

Dorian looked like garbage and had zero personality. He did nothing for the sport other than to drive it backwards.

Arnold was very harsh in that article, moreso than portrayed here. He was also 100% correct.

Levrone used to talk about Dorian in the same way.

That he would just win, go back to England...and then attempt to come in bigger at the next Mr. O.

I think Arnold feels that Dorian did little to elevate the sport. But one has to blame the powers that be for awarding him the title year after year.

And Dorian was the first Mr. Olympia to sport the pumpkin gut. But he was great in 92, 93 and 95.
