I wonder how many kids lifting weights realize that this is a widespread phenomenon that is in every gym. I was doing benches touching my chest with the bar and an internet certified trainer told me I was going way to low.
This screams of the poor work ethic that is rampant in gyms today. How many half reps in shoulder pressing, benching, squats and leg presses can I watch without saying something? These guys actually believe they are strong.
Just a short 20 years ago I never seen the nonsense going on today. I see kids loading 405 in the squat barely bending there legs. Then they strut around the gym like people should be impressed. I would be impressed if they sank all the way down and came up. I saw a guy load about 1000lbs in the leg press. He first put the back board as high as he could get it to shorten the range of motion. Then he barely bent his legs doing the reps. With a crash at the end he climbed out of the machine looking like he was so proud of himself.
You know one lift you can't cheat? The power clean. You make the lift or you don't. I bet a lot of these gym heros coundn't power clean and jerk 235lbs.
