First of all, his whole career was based on prosecuting stuff like this, which completely discredits him, plus he's strongly disliked by most and third it looks like he used taxpayer money for parts of the equation, like flights to/from rendezvous.

He had to apologize, especially given his circumstances.

For the record, the girl only cost $2800 and the remaining $1500 was a deposit/credit for his next booking to allow him to make a reservation on credit. Considering that $2800 to him is like $28 to us, that's not such a big deal.

It's the "American" way.  When you get caught with proof of doing something wrong, you automatically apologize without a second though.  You publically admit your faults and weep about how "disappointed" you are in yourself.  Then apologize to your family, your company/team, and starving kids in Africa.
