I fill up my 5 gal. jugs at a water n ice store that I trust changes their filters often.

Or just buy some reverse osmosis water gallons. At least it tastes better than our crap tap water in Arizona.

Just buy a water filter jug and pour your tap water directly into it at home, that's what I do. Nothing wrong with a bit of tap water either - people get too picky about things like this.

So what is the best type to drink - Spring water? Mineral water?

One that has little Sodium and is alkaline. Alkaline water is charged with electrons, which has a potent antioxidant effect in the body. The best is water from mountain tops - lowest Sodium and PH.

True.
Many companies simply filter plain tap water and put it in bottles.

I recently came across a list of those brands that use real spring water and those that filter the same water you can get from your faucet, though I'm unable to locate it.
A bit of searching ought to show the results if you're interested.

Funny how most of the people I hear bitching about the price of gas are actually paying even more for stupid water.

i know you're not supposed to drink distilled water.  palumbo says its very acidic and is actually horrible for muscle growth.  alkalized  water is non-acidic and is what studies have shown to be what healthy folks drink.  just learned this over at MDtv.

Why Mineral Water is the Best Drinking Water

http://watershed.net/mineral.aspx

good article

I think I'm going to give mineral water a try. I hate the idea of buying water. Without being paranoid about it, I don't trust tap water.

Tap water tastes metallic and it probably poisons you with excessive Iron and Cobalt from the pipelines. Not to mention the pesticides and fecal bacteria it has. Use activated charcoal to filter that water. The best filtering is a German technology known as microfiltration using limestone powder which removes particles to the level of the micron - one thousands of a milimeter. This si quite expensive, though, but is an absolute must if outstanding health is your goal.

Come to Az and try our tap water. You will change your mind quick, unless you like drinking water that tastes like a dirty river bottom  :-\

The jugs I fill up are just reverse osmosis so cleans it up a bit. That is good enough for me but can't do tap in this city.

Yeah, well i live in Australia and out tap water is fine, yet when i went to the states, i was surprised at how the water varied from state to state. It was fine in Ohio, yet shit in Vegas. Tasted like it had chlorine in it :-\
No doubt about it...
