WHO 'DAT?! A Contest.

A few of you might be interested in entering this contest. Or maybe just seeing some old time and "not so old time" photos of bodybuilders who used to compete and win the major titles of those days and their associates.

I'll post some shots and see it anyone cares to take a guess as to whom they see in the photos. First to post the correct answer/answers will receive a point for his/her efforts and in a month or two the winner will receive some DVD's that are taking up room on my shelf and a few PS computer games as well ... all used stuff but in prime condition.

No problem if no one wants to participate, but you might be interested in how the tops guys looked many years ago.

Here's one to start this off.

This one is way too easy if you look close enough, so:

Good job, Wes, but you are wrong on the "Tuff One" shot. The guy in the middle is NOT Reeves.

Here's a tough one to figure out unless you knew the spot way back when ....

Name him.
Naming the major contest he won would be too tough.

Wisconsin, the old guy (Blue) whose photo you posted above bears a striking resemblance to Gypsy Boots in his later years.

Extra point to anyone who can name the protein product that Gypsy manufactured back in the 50's. I don't think anyone will be able to answer this one.

As a movie buff, this is a cool post!  I've seen Athena several times and I thinks it's one of the strangest mainstream movies ever made.  If anyone starts to watch it, they should surely stay through till the end to see the 'Mr. Universe' contest.

This actually brings up an interesting topic, one which I bet stuntmovie, you'd be really good at:  naming obscure movies that had well known bodybuilders in them.  I'll certainly give you one title:  Don't Make Waves which starred Tony Curtis and had Dave Draper in it.

Any other movies I should know about?

Hmm. There are lots. BBers were and are probably still seen as 'oddities' and usually populate the movies as such. 'Don't make waves' is a good example. It is truly 'odd,' but unlike most California/surf movies is actually really good in it's weirdness; looking at the castlist will make one do a double-take. One of the earliest actors would be Nat Pendleton, who is more accurately a wrestler, who used his physique in the twenties and on in flicks with the Marx Bros and with William Powell in The Great Ziegfeld as Eugene Sandow. Unlike others, he really had the chops. BBers, like comedians, because of their nature are usually best used as supporting roles.
