Greenspan said this is the biggest financial crisis since WW2.  FDIC chair called for aggressive intervention from govt.  Bush refuses to help.  White house response to all of this is to help the companies but ignore the homeowners.


Mccain called his trip a fact-finding mission to iraq.  He isn't convinced iran isnt' a threat.  He said americans should be prepared for 100 years in both iraq and afghanistan. 

He and cheney arrived in Iraq at the same time.  Mccain is fully committed to bush/cheney plan on the wars.  100 years.

I take a few steps into the middle of an intersection with a clear view in all directions. Along the main thoroughfare, my immediate surroundings are replicated: block after block of shops and bustling residents. The side streets that I remember as sewage-clogged gutters are clean and teeming with construction and activity.

Things up north in MND-N or the Mosul area will stay hot for awhile. AQI is on the run and headed that way and the Sons of Iraq groups are not as plentiful in that area. But if u look at areas that were absolute hell this time last year....violence has dropped off by big numbers. I have no doubt that Iraqi's want us out but they also know that if we leave, their security situation will fall apart. Its time for their government to step up, thats whats holding us back. The sooner a stonger central Iraqi government can manage their own security and infrastructure concerns, the sooner we will pull out. There are plans for further troop cuts this summer.

When the leaders, and the people, of Iraq have said they'd like us to leave...

and we say we'll be there another 100 years...

well, it seems more like an occupying force than "helping them out".  I'm okay with that, but would some honesty hurt? 

Also Mccain clarified LATER that "saying he was referring to a military presence similar to what the nation already has in places like Japan, Germany and South Korea" after people were fcking outraged about a 100 year committment.

You say the majority of Iraqis out?  Where is that poll?  We must be careful of what is fact and what is opinion.
I want us to slowly withdraw and put more pressure on the Iraqi gov too...but I'm not so sure the majority of Iraqis want us out yet.  In fact, their gov has given a strong message they still require our military support.  Seems that most independent investigators say that Iraq is quite a bit safer and better off compared to 1 year ago.  We shouldn't be arguing this, the reports are out.  The question is what is the Iraqi gov doing to increase power and stability, and what is the minimum # of troops required to support them in the comming months so we can start getting out and stop spending our limited resources.

Hahahaha.    I guess you havent noticed that when our terrorists secure an area (say baghdad) then their terrorists move to another section of the country and raise hell.    Then our terrorists move up and secure that area as their terrorists move back (say baghdad).    then our terrorists move to that area...and so on and so on.

What I've heard from soldiers who have been there is Iraqis don't want us to leave.

Prove with any data...hard facts...anything that I'm wrong. I just sat in on the Intel estimate from MND-C ...or Baghdad. Guys a hell of alot smarter then u are saying that AQI is moving north. Things are better and improving daily. Will it hold? Nobody knows.

i agree things are bette rin iraq than they were a year ago, absolutely.  Attacks are down 60%, right?  yes, the surge is working...

But...

we're pumping $12 bil per month into iraq right now to fund the surge.  i'd MUCH rather see that $12 bil per month being pumped back into US economy to fix things here.  yes, perhaps we could spend $12 bil a month and fix a lot of things in the world, as we are in iraq... but I don't care about those things.  I care about the U S of A.   When I read that the Irai govt has such a surplus of $ they cannot spend it enough, I seriously wonder why we're paying for everything there.
