Mixing bodybuilding with MMA and wrasslin'
« on: March 20, 2008, 07:07:08 AM »
I know some here follow MMA and from the response triple H got at the arnold expo, it is obvious he appeals to those that like bodybuilding.
I have nothing against MMA or WWE pro wrasslin'. I just don't undersand why bodybuilding feels such a need to combine these activities with bodybuilding.
You rarely hear any MMA or wrasslin fan talking aboout pro bodybuilders on their shows and forums.
Why do we here at get big?
I am fan of bodybuilding. I don't follow major team sports and want bodybuilding to be about just bodybuilding and our pros.

Howie, the target market for supplement companies, WWE and UFC are all about the same:  18-35 ish.  The WWE and the UFC wouldn't benefit at all from adding bodybuilding to their product, but bodybuilding can certainly benefit from trying to attract fans from those organizations.  I know some people were bitching about how the UFC event at the arnold made the expo too packed, but the supplement companies absolutely loved it.  Having the UFC there brought around 100,000 people in their target market to the expo who wouldnt have been there just for the bodybuilding show.

Its all about broadening the fan base.

howie,

your school must be on spring break.

it's all quiet from you since christmas, then you're starting 10 thread a day on 'bodybuilding philosophy'.

you're supposed to be going on trips during school breaks!

Nobody cares about pro bodybuilding.

That is the reason they bring triple H, in order to get some ppl
to the show and expos.

Even on this forum ppl talk about the latest UFC results.
On fighting forums nobody cares about the Mr Olympia results.

The Muscle worshipping weirdos and hardcore homos are not enough to
support the shows, supp and mag sales.

So Brock Lesnar is on the cover of muscle mags to generate some sales.

Because in essence BB is boring. The shows are boring to watch and so are the "posing routines". if they bring in well known people from other venues it will hopefully increase the level of entertainment. Also LMAO at "our pros".

it's already been said, but bodybuilding and supplement companies are trying to bring in some of the market from those two sports.  Both are a lot more popular than bodybuilding so it makes sense to try and bring in some of their fan base.  Like wisBB said supplement companies would have been loving the turnout at the arnold, they sponsor wrestlers and UFC fighters as well, Xygiene (Spl?) is a major UFC sponsor, and both John Cena and Batista have at one time been supplement sponsored.  Not to mention the amount of wresters who have graced either weider magazines.
Abandon every hope...

Bingo, aspiring bodybuilders and aspiring MMA artist use some of the same supplements.

Often big muscle are associated with being a good fighter which is sometimes the case ( Arlovski, Coleman, Sherk, ect) and sometimes not, think James Thompson.

You also mentioned why some getbiggers make fun of the pros.

In most sports you have to perform to participate, or at least entertain.

But some BBpros, they lose money every time they compete, they place last,
nobody wants to see them, not the audience, not the judges.
Some pros keep entering shows,
punishing the audience making them throw up by looking horrible.
They even talk about how good they will look next time.

Some pros are willing to pay in order to be seen, like Jocelyn does.

Once got the pro card you can stop training and get up on stage in some shows looking like Michael Jackson in a thong
every year as long as you pay the fee.
In how many other sports can you do that?
