Gallup: Obama Retakes Lead Over Hillary
By Eric Kleefeld - March 22, 2008, 5:12PM

Today's Gallup tracking poll shows Barack Obama retaking the national lead over Hillary Clinton, after the Jeremiah Wright scandal had badly damaged his numbers and put him behind for nearly a week. Here are today's numbers, compared to yesterday:

Obama 48% (+3)
Clinton 45% (-2)

It would appear that Obama's big speech on Tuesday, combined with the Bill Richardson endorsement, have gone a long way in fixing his poll numbers for now. But he still has yet to fully recover the six-point lead he had in Gallup a little over a week ago.

Gallup/Zogby:

100% of Presidential Polls taken in March have zero bearing on the actual results of the November election.

The debates reset everything.  If McCain looks 'together' and can make Obama look like a rank amateur, he wins.  If McCain looks old and Obama looks like Myspace meets JFK, he wins.

Correct.

That said, what is the point of a Hillary/Obama national poll? Most of the States have already voted and Hillary is pretty much toast.

An Obama/McCain poll is all that really matters, and even that is irrelevant in March. Too many things can happen in the many months ahead.

Poll of polls: Obama's lead narrows after tough week
Posted: 03:25 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) — After tapes of inflammatory statements made by Sen. Barack Obama's pastor came out last weekend, it appears to have had some negative impact on the Illinois senator.

Nationally, Obama's lead over Sen. Hillary Clinton narrowed in a poll of polls — which included CBS News, USA Today and Gallup.

The polls, taken between March 14-18, show Obama with 49 percent to Clinton's 43 percent.

"I don't think there is any doubt that the [Rev.] Jeremiah Wright controversy played a role in the 10-point drop in his favorable ratings," said pollster Terry Madonna.
