Any Art Collectors Here?
« on: March 24, 2008, 12:31:27 AM »
Was wondering if any art collectors here that are interested in Bronze work and original sports paintings and Waterford Crystal.  My uncle is letting me sell some of his collection and I get a percentage.  It is 10% of what it sells for.  This stuff is high dollar.  the bronze statues are very expensive. He has two Remingtons and two Mergelman's.  One of the Mergelman's is called The Shootout and is one of a kind.  In 1988-89 or so he bought it for $400,000.  His last appraisal was for $451,000.  I want to sell it for $400,000 to dump it fast.  That is $40,000 I will split with anyone on here who wants to either buy it or knows a collector.  I am going over to his house to take pictures of everything so I will post them up.  His original sports paintings are AWESOME and are all framed.  He has sold many of them for $5,000.  But I think he will take $3,000 to $4,000 for them.  He has a couple Tiger Woods left I think and several major football and baseball stars.  If you heard of the magazine called Legend Sports Memorabilia you could see the covers.  Anyway, anyone out there who wants to make a quick buck without doing much except giving me contacts, contact me.  I will be working on this, this whole week.

That must be one hell of a bronze for an artist whose paintings auction for around a grand and sell for 200.00 to 4500.00 in his gallery.  how big is it?

It is not a painting.  It is a commissioned bronze statue.  It was specifically made for my uncle by this artist.  It is about 6' long and weighs over 900 pounds.  It is in the entrance of his house.  I am going over there on Wednesday to take some pics of it and the other stuff.  he has a few Remington's also.  It was never seen in a gallery.

yes it is spam.  But what the heck.  I will split any commission $'s with anyone on here that can hook me up with buyers.  I will find out about the Waterford.  Does Linsmore design mean anything

I know it's not a painting, didn't say it was, I said that it must be one hell of a bronze.  The size explains the price.

No worry Onlyme, this isn't really spam... You have a one time thing going on and you posted it in general... It's not quite the same as someone who comes here and pimps their pryamid scam daily.

Surely this advert only interests people in Hawaii?

How much is it gonna cost for 900lbs to be shipped to the mainland? :o

way fucking good point... but I guess if you're putting down 400,000, shipping for 900lbs isn't that much more...

My next issue would be, why advertise it on Getbig? Onlyme, surely you don't believe the members here all being millionaires right?

No not at all but I was thinking that if someone here knew a collector I would be more than happy to split the commission.  This is something I have no idea about so I need to network as much as possible.

I have gotten a few leads to collectors and even business's who have this type of art.  We'll see.

These two statues are original Remingtons that sold for $228,000 and $580,000 respectively.  They are 35" tall.  This is giving me encouragement.  The one we have is an original commissioned piece and one-of-a-kind.  The Bronco Buster statue is the most replicated piece ever.  I can't wait to take the pictures.  Come on guys we can split about at least $40,000 commission.  Start hunting.  I will have pics up tomorrow

Dang it i just about 20 pics of the Shootout and something is wrong I can't read them on my computer.  I will figure it out.  Some updates though.  It was appraised at $376,000 in 1981.  It is only 48" long and weighs about 700 lbs.  I actually talked to the artist today, Mr. Mergelman.  All the molds and everything were destroyed after it was done.  It is a one of a kind, and took 3 years to complete and was soley made for my uncle and his company at the time Lionstone Distillery.   He has some nice shit.  Also, he only wants $200,000 for it. So it will sell quick.

I think he's picking a bad time to sell.  Now's a good time to buy art.  In general the art market starts to get flooded as the economy goes down.  More people finding they need to liquidate items in hard times.  If he can't find a buyer now, best wait a few months.  I'm sure the picture of the economy will look quite a bit better this summer than now.

Yea he is in no big hurry.  He wants to sell as much as possible because he is getting old and doesn't want everyone to have to hassle with it all when he dies.  We'll see, I am the one in a hurry to sell it.  I will have pics of the Shootout up tomorrow.  Quite a piece of sculpture.

I'm not going to say you can't sell it for a good price now, this economy is a bit different than other times.  There seems to be a higher portion of the upper class unaffected or I guess I should say not as susceptible as previous down turns.  But for the most part, keep in mind that there is still an effect.  While a greater number of people in a down turn put their work on the market that will translate to the upper class as having a greater selection during this time.  Greater selection means more competition to sell your work which will usually, not always, mean a lower price.  try to sell it now, but if you don't get the price you want, even at a discount, wait until a upturn in the market, it really does make a difference...  Yes I'm in the business ;D

late reply to this point but actually he's doing a good job.  There are a few well off people here and once you get into who knows who combined with the fact that he'll split his share....  Not a bad post for General Topics and it sure in the hell beats pushing "you know what pills"  ;)

Yes I hate Spam too (except the food ;D) but he is giving me the chance to sell his stuff and I kind of like doing it.  Plus it is a lot of money that can be made from selling his stuff.  It is his sports memorabila collection that is awesome.  He has a lot of original painting which he said he is getting on disk for me.  All the pics I took yesterday did not come out.  But he has some original photos of the bronze he went to go get put on disk.  Just need to find the right person for the bronze.  It is obviously worth more than he is selling it for.  I am going to put together a webpage with the stuff on it soon.  But like I said I will split 50/50 with anyone on here who can find buyers for any of it.

here are 3 views of the Shootout.  Not the best pics.  these were done in 1971 when it was made.  I will take some more when I get over there.  These are from slides.  But that thing does way closer to 800 lbs than 700
