Lobster... overrated?
« on: March 28, 2008, 07:38:56 PM »
So I'm at Red Lobster tonight.  I admit, I'm definitely not a seafood guy.  Growing up in the trailer park, I rarely ate any fish that I didn't catch myself, and lobster never came around our canal.

Anyway, I had lobster tonight with my steak and I must admit, I wasn't all that impressed.  I know it's supposed to be what girls order in order to owe a guy sex.  Some status symbol that comes with ordering it.  But it pretty much tasted like what I believe a Krabby Patty should taste like.  Thoughts on lobster?

Red Lobster is considering tacky and cheap, but I love that place. Great shrimp, biscuits, cheese rolls and yes the Lobster is pretty good.

what seafood places eclipse it?  SW Florida has lots of places, but most are independet owned and you might get an amazing feast, or you might get something that should have been tossed out 3 days ago.  With the standardization of a nat'l chain, you can at the very least expect some consistency in quality standards.

What the fuck's the difference?  Raw or cooked?
Unless you're somewhere serving 10oz sirloin for under $10, the lobster tail is going to be peeled from the shell just about to the body anyway.

Are you thinking crab legs?  Some people can't tell the difference.  You'd think it is obvious, but I've met some morons that can't tell the difference.

You're probably thinking crab, never mind.

Anyone ever order a lobster and the menu says x amount and you don't realize it is by the pound and when you get the bill it is like 150 bucks? ;D

Was this your first taste of lobster?  :o

The best lobster (and lobster rolls) are to be found in Maine.  I know it is counterintuitive, but as a general rule seafood (shell fish or otherwise) in Florida is not very good and I say this as a seafood lover and a Florida lover.  Maryland crabs are the best.  Maine lobster is the best.   :P

btw, why is this posted on Gossip and Opinions?  Does it have anything to do with bodybuilding?  ???

I think so.  I've had lots of seafood at events, but never sat down at a table and pointed at it on the menu and identified it.  Usually, given a plate of seafood, I'd just shovel it down and look for a biscuit.  I'm not the most cultured guy, I admit.

Usually, when the menu permits, I choose steak over anything fish or fowl.

Daniel san is from Metro Detroit where "sign of the beefcarver" and "coney island" are as prominent as IHOP is in Florida.
I'm sure he took a date to Birmingham for an $80 "choice" ribeye a time or two, which allows him a condescending view on family food fair.

Cud chewing represents a more "cultured" aspect of the animal kingdom, no?

Haha, I am not from Macomb county, but we do have a lot of coneys. Birmingham and Troy do have nice restaurants though, but I am to really into them. I like Red Lobster and Outback just fine.

What's the place that lets you toss your peanut shells onto the floor?
That's quality meat there!

Michiganders, while fat and uneducated, can cook a fucking steak.
Only place I've ever been where EVERY cook knows what a "Pittsburgh" grilled steak is.

Try that in some hemp bricked rice steamer out in Colorado.

Lonestar closed in my town too.

On February 18, 2008 Lone Star closed 27 restaurants to leave the company with 152 locations

Can you believe someone was sad enough to create a WIKI for this... or that I was sad enough to read it?

What man do you wish you owed sex to after eating it?

I dress like a scrub and didn't have lobster until I was 31.  What gay man would want me?

Have you ever lived outside of FL?  You--everyone really--owes it to themselves to pick up and live in another part of the country.  Many people do this for college, grad school, or employment.

Even if when “becoming a cultured person” is not the goal, you learn and experience SO MUCH from living in different parts of the country. The people you meet, the foods you eat, the things you are exposed to, the habits you pick up.  All of this is magnified to the nth degree if you get to live abroad!  If you don’t get to do it, make sure your children do.  They will thank you for it.

Well they probably don't mind that as much as the fact that you never made it to 240...  ;D

I lived in Ohio near Cleveland until I was 16.  hard working people up there.  way different everything up there.  Cloudy 10 months per year.  people jumped off bridges a lot up there, very odd.  A suicide a week.  Crime was terrible.  Lots of successful people walking into buildings where bums were sitting on the sidewalks.  Weird.  FL is full of lazier people overall, but the weather is nicer.
