if you want to REALLY see how strong your biceps are CURL THE DUMBBELL WITH YOUR PALM UP THE WHOLE TIME, then we'll see all these clowns who claim to curl 80-100 pound db's all of a sudden become 50's and 60's.

I was never much into the whole "twist your wrist as you bring up the dumbell".  You're right...I think the most I ever did was 2 with 60's.  Not the greatest form either.

yep, like i said, db power cleans is all he's doing and a 15 year old kid could do that.

wow.

this is a surprise.

another thread where squadfatter 'owns' someone who he could never dream of being in the same shape of as he cannot control is appetite long enough it get down to 10% from the 30% bf he now carries.

and then all the little big men of this thread come running to his defense saying 'hahahaha, yeah the guy is a loser'. these are the same guys in the gym who wear size medium underarmour shirts and board shorts and walk around with their ILS in groups of 3-4 doing preacher curls and pec deck every day, looking at everyone around them thinking 'fuck i'd kill to look like that' but saying to their buddies 'look at that juice monkey. hahahaha'.

now fatty, here's a suggestion- instead of concerning yourself so much with what everyone else is doing, why don't you spend more time on doing something with that fat, sloppy derailment of a body other than reaching for just one more twinkie.

hope this helps.

biceps supinate and flex, so why would anyone curl palms face up?

it is better to twist for development

Bicep tendon plays role in arm flexion in addition to forearm flexion....so why not add that to the movement too?

Nobody here is knocking the way the guys looks... he just comes off as an arrogant prick and I would tell him that.

Seriously, he's doing deads with a spotter helping him get it up, a 4 person squat, and swinging hammer curls that he believes are strict. Anyone who works out with a team of guys to spot him is a dickhead.

Hope this helps.

Not necessarily - it's the equivalent of rolling back on shrugs - it's not necessarily needed.

If you want to hit the biceps directly using them and them alone, then do movements which don't call for supination. My biceps are one of my best bodyparts and none of my exercises for them in the gym involve supinating the wrists.

you have no idea what your talking about. the traps are not major retractors of the scapula but major elevators. You also need to clarify which of the three portions of the trapezius your talking about as they have slightly different functions.

the biceps and brachioradialis and corachobrachilis are all the muscles you are trying to work with curls, supination and flexion are their movements, hence the benefit of supination. Plus because your recruiting more fibers you can lift more with supination involved making the movement much more efficeint

which muscle are you talking about? why are you referrring to tendon and not muscle?

there are two seperate tendons for the bicep and two more for humeral flexors. the major flexors of the forearms  are the flexor group (palmaris longus, flexor carpi ulnaris, flexor carpi radialis etc).

What muscle?  I thought by saying the bicep tendon it would be fairly obvious.  Your statement of "there are two seperate tendons for the bicep and two more for humeral flexors" makes no sense.  The bicep crosses the shoulder joint at two points (the long head attachment being made on the glenoid and other being on the coracoid process for the short head).  So, if you meant to say that there are two seperate tendons at the proximal aspect of the bicep and ONE for the distal attachment then I would agree being that the distal attachment for both heads is made on the radius.  The bicep thus crosses two joints.  Its involved in shoulder flexion and forearm flexion.  I was being facetious aboud involving shoulder flexion in the a bicep curl.

Additionally, the flexor carpi group as well as the palmar longus you mention are primarily for wrist flexion.  The may ASSIST with forearm flexion, but that is not their primary action.

the bicep is not a muscle but a group of muscles. there are two seperate tendons

my statement makes sense if you include the coracobrachilis and bracioradialis

All this guys is doing swinging hammer curls with a slight twist of the palm at the top. I have never seen anyone strict curl (palms up the entire movement, minimal swing) more than the 50's

I think Coleman has barbell curled 200 lbs in the off-season, but I could be wrong about this.

The biceps is a group yes.....a short head and a long head.  Bottom line is that I was talking about flexion of the humerus added to a curl.  You took it off in another direction.  The debate is to if its a beneficial thing to add supination to a curl.  I personally dont like it.  Some do.

So you bringing up the primary wrist flexors makes sense if thats what we were taking about.  Actually in a study (Basmajian & DeLuca 1985: Thompson 1989) it was found that the biceps are strongest when the hand was in full supination during the entire curling movement.  I think Yessis tried to state that a near hammer curl position was best but some time after that it was found that putting the biceps in that angle actually decreased its effectiveness.

Regardless....heres my solution:

1) Pick the weight up
2) Put it down
3) If you can still do #1, repeat until you cant

palms up no way.. 70 for 8 reps is the most i've done.

your studies are ancient and biomechanics have come a long way, the biceps and the muscles i outlined are involved in forearm flexion AND supination, supination is key to building the brachioradialis, which adds depth and size to the lateral portion of the arm.

im not really disagreeing with you, just pointing out that flexion and supination is probably best for an overall arm workout.
