President Bush booed in baseball opener...
« on: March 31, 2008, 07:12:56 AM »
President Bush threw out the traditional and ceremonial first pitch last night in the Washington Nationals new ballpark. To me sounded like 50/50% cheers/booes. Like him or not, the guy knows how to throw a baseball. I'll never forget when the playoffs resumed after 9/11, he took the mound and fired a perfect strike after giving the thumbs up....not ten feet away either..but from the mound and on the rubber!!!!  I found it disrespectful that people booed him...just not the time/place to boo our president..no matter how much we disagree with decisions he has made..Discuss...

I don't find it disrespectful.  For example, some may say it's disrespectful to boo a mass murderer during his final meal and execution stating that at least let him die in peace or something like that, but I wouldn't hold it against someone for booing.  Bush is scum in my mind and the mind of a lot of people in the USA and virtually everyone in the rest of the world.

As I'm not American I don't really care about Bush one way or another. But I will say this - it's the same as Britain though - it doesn't matter who's in power - they all have to make difficult and sometimes immoral decisions (like the Iraq war) and they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. That's life for ya.

The word is 'cue,' and with his support at -what?- 30%, I figure the dislike for Shrub is probably pretty even across the political spectrum.  :D

I am a libertarian which is as politically close to mirroring the ideologies of the founding fathers of the USA that you can get.  How can Joe realistically define that as not being conservative?  I don't think he has much knowledge of the principles the US was founded on and doesn't know what the definition of a true conservative is.

Bush signing the USA PATRIOT ACT of 2001 is an impeachable offense in that it is an unconstitutional act and he swore to uphold the constitution when he agreed to his position in offense.  Bush has committed no less than 10 other equally serious impeachable offenses since then.

they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. That's life for ya.

How are Bush and his scum elitist friends damned if they don't in Iraq?

The Coach,

You attacked matt C, not his statement.   The #1 rule in debate or normal conversation is that you don't attack the messenger, you attack the message.  When you do this, you make others believe his point is CORRECT and all you can do is be mad about it.  Is that the case?

You called matt C a liberal.  But you didn't say he was wrong.

Is he?  Can you list 5 good things Bush has done?

Matt C,

Some argue that Bush did GOOD things while in office.  Yes, the methods may be questionable and it might be messy... but he's secured new bases in a region of the world where the USA needs them.  He assured that oil from iraq will be sold in dollars, by US firms.  He assured the US is in a good position to maintain our supremacy worldwide for decades to come.  We might not be liked, but we have people and bases in powerful places, and we can rest assured that if shit hits fan, we're in good position to shake a few folks down worldwide and retain our status.

Some argue that Repub admins are good for setting up bases and controlling oil and other resouces worldwide (reagan all over the place, bush1/2 with iraq, nixon with nam).  And the Dems are good for recovering the economy and fixing things domestically.

Are they wrong, Matt C?  And if so, why?

You think (in this case) the mass murderer allowed the person he/she killed, to have peace in their final moments? I don't think so!!! I say give him exactly what he gave the person he killed....terror and fear.
Not aimed directly at you, MattC. Not an attack, just stating my opinion using your quote.

I found it disrespectful that people booed him...just not the time/place to boo our president..no matter how much we disagree with decisions he has made..Discuss...

Is there another time when booing would be more appropriate? When would that be? Might as well be at a baseball game, instead of the State of the Union address, right?

Yes 240, I get that Bush did good things for the USA by default through doing good things solely for the benefit of his family and friends.

As for how the rest of the world views the USA: you will get killed or severely hurt backpacking in tons of countries in the world should you have a US flag on your pack.

I think this could be lumped in with the "Thugs Attacking Over a Parking Spot" thread.... if you're in a known area for violence and such, you probably shouldn't be there!

*I see the satire in your post 240....*

Yep, I noticed that as well. He does have a pretty good arm. I didn't notice any booing though...
maybe it's because I'm Canadian and so used to hearing boos whenever his face is shown this side of the border,
...after a while... you get used to it.  :-\

I couldn't disagree with you more vehemently. For your sake, and everyone else's I hope I'm wrong but doubt it,
...the evidence shows otherwise. I think he's squandered surpluses, and ensured the US's position of supremacy in the world is a thing of the past. I think he has put your society and many others in a very precarious position.

A country in such incredible debt to a foreign country is not an autonomous country. It is one that takes it's orders from afar. Many ask why the administration cowtows to Mexico's demands? the answer is simple. The US is in debt to Mexico. if you think such a rate of indebtedness make you strong, ...just take a look at any 3rd world African nation that has gotten indebted to the IMF. These countries are struggling under back breaking interest on their debts and are unable to educate their people because the IMF and others dictate to them that they cannot build schools or provide education that would release their citizens from a cycle of poverty.

A nation cannot be strong if it is weak financially, and it most certainly can't maintain supremacy with it's military stretched to the breaking point. Just look at the Katrina disaster and how effectively they were able to deal that (NOT!) with all the guardsmen over in Iraq.

I can't wear a red jumpsuit and walk thru Criptown in Compton, California, either.

But you can in Santa Barbara. I know... I did.  :P  really. no joke. It wasn't that I was brave or nothing,
I just had no idea that there were some colours you just don't wear in certain areas.
Plus too I think they knew I wasn't showing allegiance to anyone, and wasn't a gang banger, ...just clueless.  :-X

Iraq needs baseball.

If the sunni and shiite can just settle things on the baseball diamond, maybe they'll stop blowing each other up.

Make it happen, HH6.  They just need about $200 worth of equipment from the Baghdad Sports Authority, and they'll be good to go!

funny as this may sound....some republicans can actually think on their own.  ;)
NT

Guys like beach bum and the coach... I think the thing is that they don't see any difference between the republican party of 1984 as the one from 2007.

Today's party is of a neoconservative belief - nationbuilding, pre-emptive strikes, torture, fear tactics, borrowing $1Tril per year, etc...  Reagan didn't do that.  They were DEM voters back then, so they are ignorant of history.
