China Question...
« on: April 11, 2008, 01:30:00 PM »
What do you think of this post I read on another forum?

Quote
It's predicted that China is going to become the next superpower in the next decade or so time, and due to the amounts we're importing from them, you could say us from the west are pretty much comitting suicide in terms of our position on the world stage: we're effectively giving money, resources and power to our rivals just so we can have a bunch of shitty goods and lead comfortable materialistc lives.

However, on the flip side. A country like China, which has been a regional dominator for centuries, has a powerful government, huge land mass and vast amounts of human and physical resources, should naturally be a superpower. I mean if Russia made it, then there's no reason China couldn't reach that same level, and they can learn from the mistakes which the soviet union made.

It's possible that through importing huge amounts of goods from China, we are effectively keeping them down as a nation; we're injecting them with the corporate plague. Through the MNCs out there exploiting the Chinese workforce, the bulk of profits do not go to China and it's people, but instead, to the corporations who then invest elsewhere.
So instead of allowing China to be able to grow on their own at a steady rate, we're effectively making them dependant on us, and trying to suck all their human resources dry. When we profit off of their resources, they must be losing out.

Additionally, through overworking and underpaying their population for a lot of the work, we're helping to make their country more unstable. They've had to build massive new cities by the dozen, relocate millions of people, enforce tougher laws to keep social order and have aided in destroying the local cultures of the Chinese people, if we just stopped importing their goods, chaos would ensue over there. Millions of people would be out of work and the people would probably turn against the government.

The ones we should be looking out for are India, Brazil and Russia.

china made a buttload of $ the last few years under Bush.

But the spending is about to be curbed.  Out of necessity.
