Computer/Printer Question
« on: April 12, 2008, 01:15:50 PM »
I recently added a HP Photosmart C5280 All in One printer to our system.  We also have an old HP Deskjet 940C that I haven't disconnected or uninstalled yet from the system.

Sometimes the new Printer will not print (documents are stuck in the queue).  Then I sometimes I have to shut down the system and turn it back on and there magically appears another printer available called HP 5200 Series Copy 1  or Copy 2 or 3 or 4.  Then that is the one I have to set to default so we can print from the new printer.

Sometimes it will just not print and I have to try all of the "new" copy printers and one will work which I will set as default until it quits printing and then I have to change it again.

I checked to see if my driver was updated properly and it was.

Could the presence of my old printer be causing this problem?  Did I get a lemon?  Could it be possessed? ::)

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks :)

Expensive, you should have looked for a laser one.

Is it a network printer as in its connected throug usb/rj45 to a router? Or its plugged straight to your box/laptop? As for the other printers available, that means you had a rage moment probably and installed it lot of times because it wasnt working! Start deleting those copies.

Are you 100% sure you are using the latest driver? which windows version? xp vista 98 nt 3.11 for workgroups? :)

No, the old printer installed is not ruining your printing experience BUT just in case you wanna be sure, uninstall it. I have 8 different printer drivers installed and no drama (2 for hp, 3 for xerox, 3 for epson)

It's plugged straight into my computer...no network.

I did uninstall and reinstall it once...because it was having probs and said I must have connected the usb cable before I was supposed to do so and uninstalling and reinstalling should help.

I went to the hp.com site and had it check for me and it said the driver was the latest one.  I think I've got Windows XP.

I deleted all the HP printer copies except for the one that is working right now (copy 4).  Can we wait until it stops working correctly and then fix it ;D

Give it a gentle thump.

On a more serious note, you should make sure you have XP, b/c it sounds like a Vista problem.

no sir its a problem of the printer itself. This is common among multifunctional printers. Happened to me exactly the same (i see docs @ qeue, had to turn off on the printer), also i dont really like the printer spooler from windows, it fails bigtime!

Stella
start->config->control panel->system->general tab = you see here what you have installed.
Now, right now it might be working fine after you uninstalled everything but my advice is to uninstall that lucky printer driver, turn off the printer, install again the drivers, plug the printer when its required, turn it on when its required and it should work all fine. No need to have a mess right?

As for the printer itself, i would recommend you a laser color one because, even though its more expensive as in the base cost, the cost x printed page is lower and you really dont wanna spend a shitload of money on those jewish ink cartridge which end costing as much as the printer.
I love laser technology, but theres a new one being developed by xerox, which is crayon based.

sorry for being a geek i hate myself now hahah

I just the HP C8180.  It is really good.  I like wireless feature.  I really like how easy it is to copy pictures from a camera to a DVD or stick.  Plus it has LightScribe.  It is fast too.  Real quiet too.
