He was certainly a very amazing bodybuilder, not sure if he was "THE best ever PERIOD" though. In some respects, yes he was, like the way he held his size with respectable symmtery and proportion. But as we know, bodybuilding isn't just about size.
He was closer to the ideal earlier in his Olympia years, like his appearance in 1999 at the O, or his 2001 ASC showing. It was to be a downhill course from 2001 onwards, tremendous as his later appearances may have been, like his 2003 showing in which he displayed TREMENDOUS size with conditioning, or his 2004 showing which quite possibly was his biggest appearance EVER on a bodybuilding stage. Sadly, that's not really what bodybuilding is about

Ronnie took a wrong turn, and made the BEST of it. It was REVOLUTIONARY in the so-called sport of bodybuilding, but was a disruption in its EVOLUTION, as it took a different turn from the ideals of the sport.
Am I faulting ronnie? No, not really, they rewarded him for the changes he made to his physique so he kept going in that direction naturally. Ronnie was the best at what he did in his time, PERIOD, whether he played the mass game or went the aesthetic route as he did in 2005 very successfully.
So yes, Ronnie is one of the greatest bodybuilders who ever lived. His presence on the bodybuilding stage was a sight to behold, whether you agree with the bodybuilding ideals he represented or not. For his time and age he was simply the greatest
