Are the Republicans kicking themselves now?
« on: April 16, 2008, 01:44:58 PM »
The far-right religious base refused to let electable semi-libs like Rudy and Romney win the nomination.

They chose Huckabee and Rudy to win the race.

When Huck turned out to be a little nutty and weird, McCain just kinda inherited the nomination.

Now, his age is showing.  Aside from his own team admitting age is a factor, aside from people in congress now saying "he's too old", aside from FOX news admitting he has "senior moments", aside from the fact that he stubbornly refuses to get the Al-Q/Iran and Sunni/Shiite differences correct...

Aside from all that, he's going to look like a frail old man next to an empowered woman in Hilary, or next to a vibrant young man like Obama.  Sure, we on the political board know the issues.  But what does the general public know?  They know who is going home on American Idol tonight, but they have no clue that Mccain will extend the Bush tax breaks for oil companies or that Obama has a snowflake's chance of passing universal health care.

No, the average American will know that McCain is an old war hero, Obama is a young guy who smile when he speaks of hope, and Hilary will make it like the Bill Clinton years.  That's it.

How long can McCain go before he hits the wall?

I don't know.

If the republican machine could make GW Bush look like a viable presidential candidate back in '99, hell, anyone can fit in that slot then.

McCain's as good as in.
