More intelligent, no--more informed and educated, yes. Many atheists were once followers of religion. They didn't magically become more intelligent once they disavowed supernaturalism.

I voted no. I've been wrong enough through life to learn that what I might think is right now might actually be wrong so I always keep an open mind. My wrongs have given me a defacto respect for everyone's current believe. You have to balance this respect I speak of with a true search for truth and deliver your opinion in a way that hopefully has a positive outcome... It's hard to do and I fail sometimes but I try.

Depends on who is asking the question in the poll...If the guy in your avatar asked me the question i would quickly without thinking, answer no....I voted yes though which suprised me...I was honest with myself though...Some introspection is needed...

If you lived in Alabama, in the bible belt, you might answer yes too because you get so sick of the fundamentalist christian beliefs around here....My inlaws are so religious and when you differ in opinion on religion, they fire down the mountain from upon high....Oh according to my mother inlaw, did you know the bible says races can not mix? Did you know that the earth could not have been around for millions of years because the bible does not say so?

So i answer yes to the poll out of frustration and anger....

There have been various statistical studies indicating the greater the religiosity, the lower the IQ and level of education. Most PhDs for example are decidedly irreligious.

Theology/Divinity is a non-subject and would not count anyway.

I met many Presbyterian Seminary students who said that one of their many requirements was to learn Greek and Hebrew in order to get their PhD. You can't learn Greek and Hebrew with a low IQ.

But Theology/Divinity aside, you still have people like Arthur Peacocke, Russell Stannard, John Polkinghorne and Francis Collins, just to name a few of the good scientists who are sincerely religious.

Exceptions confirm the rule.

If you ask people like Francis Collins (and if you have read his book), you will see that his reasons for believing have nothing to do with intellect; he saw a frozen waterfall and stunned by its beauty gave himself to Christ. (it's in his book).

when i argue politics, I never take a side. I ask the person about their side, then i point out the flaws or merits. The moment you label yourself, they take everything you say with a grain of salt.
