What food should i eat after a workout
« on: April 22, 2008, 02:33:52 PM »
I can't really afford any supplements. usually after a worout i have like a couple of pints of full fat milk and a couple of bananas.
Is this ok or would there be something i could eat that would be more beneficial ??? :D

a good meal replacement shake is easy..convenient..and doens't fill you up so you can eat again a few hours later!

maximus if you lack enough calories in your diet if you're trying to put on weight from Atlarge Nutrition..or a solid protien drink like Nitrean will work well.

i usually pop a shake right after and then eat a good meal an hour or so later.

protien and carbs matter here just as much as the rest of the day... so pack the food down!

Egg whites (Each lg. Egg = 3 g. protein), Rice Cakes with honey! Lean Meat(chicken) and Startchy carb (sweet tat) 1-1.5 hours later  ;)

Bread, crackers, 2% milk, low fat milk, chocolate milk, rice, spaghetti, ...

You get the idea: carbs. (Preferable not fructose.)
Add some protein (from the milk or eggs or whatever) and you're all set.

Suggestion: Try the "Fake crab" from the sea food section of your supermarket, it has high simple carbs (white flour is typically an indredient), no or little fat and relatively high protein (from a variety of fish often alaskan pollack or whitefish)

i thought bananas were a good post workout snack. is there new research disputing this? i know they are good for breakfast to help restore glycogen, but should i stop having one post workout too?

bananas do not restore glycogen

bananas are FRUCTOSE

fructose is only utilized by the liver

my understanding is that once liver glycogn is replenished, then all remaining fructose is coverted to ffa's by the liver and sent out into the blood stream in that form
