Author Topic: Tom Platz 1981 Olympia Rare Video Caps (Upper Body) (Read 17813 times)

Never got around to it.
There are two 1981 videos that are both very incomplete.
There is the one that Franco made which mainly features him.
Another is called Body by Garrett about a young kid that guest
posed at the 81 O. This has the clearest footage but shows
pretty short clips of Platz, Callender and Franco. It also shows
Arnold backstage complimenting the kid if I remember correctly.

Every person I have spoken to who was at the 81 O IN PERSON, said Platz was the winner.

Agree with you on that. Padilla was way more complete than Platz. Platz had the freaky quads but he was on the smooth side in his upperbody. I have heard that Platz burnt a lot of bridges in the IFBB so maybe thats why he didnt place so well.

Did you see the pics that started this thread?

...Platz was hard as nails, and his biceps had grown a peak rivaling Mr Everest.

I must admit, Padilla looked incredible, but at 3'11 he was not match for Tom....

I was there in the cheap seats but had a damn good pair of binoculars.

I could see every striation these guys had. I would have given Danny or Chris second. Danny was very symmetrical, but just a tad to small for my liking. Chris was also had great conditioning and in fact I think he looked better in 1981 than when he won in 1982, but he also was just a tad too small. Tom was number one in my opinion by far. Freaky size in the legs, but also in the upper body. He was very thick compared to the other guys and WAS NOT in any way smooth. He had very deep seperation and was striated everywhere. Franco had decent conditioning, but (and I know this has been said before

) had not only small legs but zero quad separation compared to the other guys. In short (no pun) he sucked bad.

BTW, after this show Dickerson announced his retirement, but at the last minute showed up at Bill Pearls ranch to get in shape one last time (not

) to try and win the Olympia. He looked terrible and I give him huge props for getting into the shape that he did. I have pics somewhere and he barley looked like he ever touched at weight before in his life.
