Deicide, I have a few questions for you if you don't mind answering....no prob. if you don't though!

1.  Do you find the thought that there is no God brings you any comfort?

2.  How much time do you think you spend (with the purpose of bolstering or sharing your beliefs) reading atheist writings and reading and posting on atheistic internet forums and searching for and watching videos like the one above?

3.  Why did you change your name here on getbig to Deicide and why is it your name on many other internet forums?

4.  Do you think there is any possibility that you are either consciously or subconciously seeking God?

(if columbusdude would like to answer 1,2 & 4 I'd be interested in his answers too)

Just b/c something hasnt been proven to exist doesnt mean that it doesnt exist, right?

Another christian warrior tearing his hair out as he watches his "religion"  fall further into disrepair. Atheists are growing as more people spurn religion and the invisible man who lives in the sky.

Keep hugging your magic book while whispering "its not happening".
Ha ha

On the subject of proving things....Prove that elves don't exist..how about  unicorns?.

keep grasping at straws little man. The boogeyman cometh. :)

LOL my religion is just fine and more importantly so is my faith in my religion...As its been stated many times here probably to you as you seem like a gimmick of decide, proof to one person may not necissarily be proof to another my personal experiences and beliefs are my own and probably wont change your mind just like your arrogant attempt wont change mine. What about religion bothers you so much?

LOL no hurt feelings here bro, But for someone who isnt bothered by religion you sure seem to have a hard on for insulting religious ppl and their beliefs, well i guess if it doesnt bother you much you dont need to post on the religion board then, it was nice conversing with you

Ah dear Stella; I have been away. I have been quite busy but shall take the necessary time to answer your questions.

1. No. The thought that there is no god brings me no comfort. I wouldn't care if it did or didn't. I go where the evidence points and as I have said many times prior: just because something is comforting does not make it true.

2. These days I don't spend much time at all. I am extremely busy with preparations for departing this foul land. There is another reason of course; arguing with religious lunatics provides me with a great deal of amusement but is not intellectually profitable in any way, shape or form. I would rather do something more productive.

3. Why I changed my name? For the sake of consistency. My former name was a reference to my traps which are puny indeed compared to the likes of many of getbig's giants. Latin Deus + Latin cidere= Deicide or the slaying of a god; in that sense I humorously seek to embody that abstraction.

4. No. As with all humans I have the capacity for wonder and amazement and I often feel it (at the feats of bravery of Batman for example) yet I realise it is fictional. I may have mentioned this before but there was a time when I wholeheartedly believed in the silliness of astrology; that and I am a D&D geek. ;D

If you're gonna make claims about some supernatural creator, then the burden of proof lies with you!

we have already talked about this me and decide anyway, The burden of proof lies on the person making the claim. This means that an atheist who believes there is no God must prove his claim as well. My proof for me believing in God my not be enough proof to somebody else and vice versa for an atheist. The thing is I dont go seek out atheist and preach to them but decide goes to a RELIGION BOARD and starts a thread about God not existing this puts the burden of proof on him. As we've settled on in the past neither point at this time has the ablility of being proven right or wrong scientifically, so why keep starting threads like this?

Just curious if any of non believers have heard of pascal's wager and what they think about it?

That analogy doesn't work.

There aren't atheist missionaires. There aren't atheists trying to interpret civil cases based on their personal views. Atheists aren't the ones slaughtering each other. Religion holds a big position in the world; one that allows it to dictate certain matters and heavily influence others, and because of this reason it should be called out. If it's valid as you people claim, then it should be able to prove its foundation. People just saying that God is a possibility doesn't do anything. By that same reason I could say that the Easter Bunny is real just because no one can disprove it. The Eastern Bunny may be a possibility, but that doesn't make it real.

Will God punish us in the afterlife for being non believers?  ::)

First of I think you like decide turn a blind eye to all the good religion does and Im pretty sure that atheist are doing all those things as well but for different reasons. Religion does hold a big position in the world I will agree with you but the answer is not disgarding religion but teaching tolerance of those different from you, there will always be a reason to fight religion is just the flavor of the month. Atheist have a belief as well saying that God doesnt exist, like I noted when decide brought up russel's teapot the believers are not the only people making assumptions and if we should need to prove our point so should an atheist. Your right and I can see your point about the Easter Bunny or any other thing but as I stated earlier my reasons for believing in God may not be enough proof for you or somebody else but they are enough for me and thats all that matters. I dont feel the need to prove to you that God exists and thats why I dont start threads ranting and raving about it, others feel the need to denounce religion and thus start threads like this even though as I stated earlier the points cant be proven one way or the other scientifically. I will go into my reasons if you like but I suspect you wont be satisfied with anything short of a video clip that I would post on youtube and even then I would be called liar and a fake ;D

The bold part is getting at the point of pascal's wager a tiny bit, honestly I think if you know of God and denounce him then yes you will be punished.

Pascal's Wager is retarded. The first fallacy of it is that presupposes that one can alter one's beliefs merely because one wishes to do so but is not how belief works. One needs evidence for beliefs to change, evidence and good reasons. The other fallacy of Pascal's Wager is that it assumes the Judeo-Christian god to be the the only one. Which one should you wager on? Zeus, Odin, Hades, Quetzlcoatl, Morrigan, Ares, Yu-Qiang?

In any event the burden of proof DOES lie with you. You act as if theism is the default position. Theism is most certainly NOT the default position. We say there is no evidence for this position, so please produce some.

LOL wow, first of pascal's wager in none of the literature ive read about it does it mention Christian God it just says god so to each is own and pascal's wager doesnt say that you have to believe in it simply that you live like you believe in it, but thanks for answering my question. I agree theism is not the default not knowing whether God exists is the default, atheism which states that God doesnt exist is a like a theism which is why the burden lies as much on you as it does on me.

So The Invisible Pink Unicorn is a plausibly existent entity?

Pascal's Wager IS referring to the Christian god.

Your beliefs are your own if you feel compelled to believe that, I personally dont but then again you dont feel compelled to believe in my God so as I said earlier to each his own.
while I would have to agree with the pascal statement just by the time and region he was in I still havent read any literature in which it refers to a specific god.

Dont you get tired of having the same arguement over and over again? I dont mind it in the beginning b/c you do bring up interesting points from time to time but in the end it always boils down to the same outcome. So whats the point of constantly starting threads such as this?

The Christian god, with all the traditional attributes given to him is a deity for which there is precious little evidence.

All loving, all knowing, all powerful, perfectly moral...

We have firm evidence that this sort of deity does not exist. If you wish to talk about another kind of god, by all means...

OK well I dont know why you quoted my post b/c you didnt really respond to it at all. I can agree with the bold part but b/c the Bible was written by man it is inherently skewed, I dont know what God is and dont pretend to only that I believe there is a God.

What firm evidence do you have against such a deity?

Is the person that made that film, developmentally challenged? Was there a joke at the end of the film? I could not make it all the way through it...If you can not provide proof that God doesnt exist means he does exist? That is the most idiotic thing i have heard in a long time...

You can not prove that he does exist either...
