Travis Lutter released from the UFC
« on: April 28, 2008, 04:21:43 AM »
Apparently the UFC has seen enough of Travis Lutter. Pramit Mohapatra of FightTicker.com has confirmed with “The Serial Killer” that he’s been released from his UFC contract effective immediately.

Lutter (9-5) seemed on the verge of a career resurgence after a successful stint on The Ultimate Fighter 4 where he defeated Patrick Cote to earn a title shot against middleweight deity Anderson Silva.

Lutter however squandered the opportunity (despite a good showing against Silva) by failing to make weight for the biggest fight of his career. That particular shortcoming cost him the respect of many fans and even UFC President Dana White.

Still, Lutter was able to continue fighting but had to pull out of his UFC 74 fight with Ryan Jensen after re-aggravating an old neck injury. During his hiatus former middleweight champion Rich Franklin was victorious over Jason MacDonald and Yushin Okami before being dismantled by Anderson Silva for a second time.

That left “Ace” with little options in his weight class - and a perfect opportunity for Travis Lutter to erase some bad memories. Once again Lutter held a dominant position in the first round, but his lack of conditioning left him a sitting duck for the calculated assault of Franklin in round two.

Two opportunities against two of the UFC’s top middleweights. Two opportunities squandered from what seemingly could have been prevented by Lutter himself.

It’s no secret that the UFC has been increasingly frugal with the employee payroll, but one has to wonder how much Lutter contributed to his own demise.

He is suppose to be a professional... The guy gets a shot at the title and doesn't make weight then gasses in his next fight. I think the guy has great talent but as a fighter not so much

Against both Anderson and Ace, Travis got high mount.  If he were in shape, he should have finished both.  After the armbar escape by Ace (pretty slick, imho), he was done.  Hands down at the hips, breathing heavy..... Too bad, he has serious skills.

Another disgrace - the guy is on the big stage and he couldnt be bothered to train and gets in the ring with the conditioning of full blown AIDS patient. You would have thought for not cutting weight in his bout with Silva he would have wanted to bring his A game but again he fucks up and its a shame because the guy has skills too.

Shame he aint got the right mindset to back those skills up.

Your right, 100%.  Lutter's loss is all on him.  He just did not show up in shape and looked terrible, flopping around winded.

when ya stop to think about it he's not such a bust...

let's say hypothetically you're a fighter that's on the cusp of wanting to  continue an MMA career and wanting to move on and do something else in your life.....

you get the call to do TUF and win the damned thing and ya get the cash and some exposure......

if lutter just walks away and dos'nt look back....in my book he handled that segment of his life pretty damned successfully

I bet his BJJ school is probably doing better than ever.  I still think he's a cock though.

Surely his name is tarnished from delievering 2 very poor displays, being overweight and out of condition for 2 fights and finally being dumped out of his UFC contract.

I mean it looks like a short term fix rather than a long term solution.

Fuck him hes had 2 bites of the cherry and spunked them like no other. A talented guy who is fucking bone idle and trains with his students to prepare for his fights deserves fuck all in my opinion.
