Do you realize South Korea has just as  many engineers as the USA does?

China has 4 times more.

30 percent of scientific and engineering personnel in silicon valley are Chinese or Indian citizens.

it's in that Discover Magazine on the store shelves right now:  "Top 75 Questions of Science"

This is the digital age.  A country's prosperity will be linked to it similar to what it was in the industrial age.

What are the solutions?

Or do you think it's not a problem?  If so, why?

When you can make more money in other professions, or with no degree why take engineering?
The courses are hard and they pay is not commensurate with the liability.

Many "engineers" from overseas do not meet the North American standards.

If you want to make money go into the trades or become an accountant.

So you don't see this as a problem long term in technological competition and development potentially resulting in a decline in America's competitive edge in the technological market worldwide in industries such as defense and consumer electronics??

Banks and money rule the world.

England lost its technological edge years ago. Yet they are still one of the most powerful countries on the Earth because of banks.

Also engineers in the US are trained to higher level then almost anywhere else and the American government spends more on R & D then any other country. Researchers have to go to where the money is. That is why America still attracts most of the best researchers in the world. This is especially true in Bioengineering and Drug research. Who cares that numbers are smaller if the research is more advanced.

It is more cost affective to have someone else pay for the training and you pay for their knowledge.

This has always been a fact in in America.
Einstein(general relativity) and Tesla(AC Power) where foreigners.
As was Von Braun(rocket science), Alexander Graham Bell (Telephone).
These are major imports, but many others have lead to the development of most modern technology that America Claims.

I wouldn't worry about it. No country or companies can pay what American money does.
