The California governor usually boards his private jet, a Gulfstream IV, at Santa Monica's municipal airport some eight miles from his mansion in the wealthy Los Angeles enclave of Brentwood for the 360-mile trip to his offices in Sacramento.
But local councillors in Santa Monica - including Bobby Shriver, brother of the Republican governor's wife Maria Shriver - have voted unanimously to ban such jets from using the airport.
