I don't think it matters whether or not you are married - unless the laws in the US are different from the UK.

Here in the UK if you get a girl pregnant and then run off the government chase you for child support anyway irrespective of your marital status. What does being married have to do with it? If anything, being married helps when it comes to dividing up the assets because you'll get a 50-50 split (that's assuming children arent involved - then it's different).

In my state you can get an "agreed divorce" where you both agree to terms in the prescence of your lawyer. It would be best if you can do that. Otherwise be prepared to bend over.
