Because Oconnel was considered to have a "sleeper" first round grade by several teams, and the pats had three third rounders. Matt Cassel (second qb) is on the way out, and the pats need a back up to fill his slot. They traded the first third to san d (2009 second rounder), took Shawn Crable with the second (LB Michigan), and used the luxury pick on Oconnel. Also, some speculate they may be developing him to trade in the future.

I would love if this kid could be developed over the next four years, and then step in when Brady retires. Shit, it would fit the Joe Montana thing to a t! He is our Steve Young! If they did like Kevin as an eventual replacemnt for Brady, it would take years to develope him, anyway. After the poor performance Cassel showed last season - it was only logical to get a back up that was capable ( If the worst happened ).

Seriously though, Kevin was a very good Qb behind a putrid offensive line, and bad wide recievers. Jaws was raving about this guy leading up to the draft.

agreed. I just wish he didn't say "National Football League" every 15 seconds.  Good drinking game, though.

Because Tom Brady just got a big '*' beside all his Super Bowl 'wins'.

Could lead to an epic meltdown...
