gaspari never had the structure to compete with that.

No,I think King could have been the best on the planet if he was given the chance.

King was strong but didn`rt train mega-heavy,but his form was impeccable.

Don`t know what his max squat was but he`d do reps with 450 or more ass to the grass.

when he walked you could see all kinds of fibers jumping like crazy in his calves which were awesome.

Jeff went to Weider,Weider told Jeff that to compete in the IFBB he would have to win the Nationals and the Universe.

King said he already won the AAU and NABBA versions of each contest,so that was it as far as a contract with Weider was concerned.

Jeff refused to do these shows as he felt he had already proven himsealf as a top bodybuilder.

thats the official version, i suspect weider wanted more.  :D

Rory was the shit.............I can` see how some of these guys never made it further.

Matt Mendenhal is another example.

Jeff still trains and weighs about 190-200 pounds these days.

Used to work his neck 3 times a week on a Nautilus 4-Way Neck Machine.

Do you have any current pics of him?

Rory never won because he never brought this conditioning to a stage-always came in out of shape.

If he had EVER set foot on a national stage in this condition he would be a pro.

Yes Tim

I recall about the time he won the AAU America...there was a photo and caption of him in the NY Daily News....slinging plaudits of how he was good looking enough for a movie career...and this was mainstream media

If you see, or contact King, let him know we want some pics...... BTW, Tim Belhap had the same problem as King, at the same time.

In the 80's you have to win the Universe/World Championships to become a pro-not just Nationals (or other shows like the USA later on).

Belknap won the America (in 81, last year for that name), but lost at the Universe, came in second, could not go pro. To go to the Universe in 82 he again had to win his weight class at Nationals (but could not be given the title, only the Universe spot earned from the weight class win), he came in second that year at Nationals, no Universe spot or Pro card. Repeated this in 83 and he said fuck it and went the NABBA route.

Eventually the IFBB let him in.

So King was not the only person gettig dicked around-as evidenced by Belknap.

when was that big neck pic taken?
I think he is related to Henry big neck Rollins of punk rock fame.
Jeff was Mr America when the title meant something .
He stuck with NABBA and never really got into the NPC/IFBB organization?
Same with Joe Meeko, another incredible physique from that time period.

I disagree. I think he did bring it one year but was VERY, VERY unlucky as he ran into none other than Bob Paris.

So, he was short, then?

If my information is correct, Jeff is 5'10.5".  180 at that height would be impressive if it was a lean 180.  I had heard before about him being seen by people in the late eighties (1987 I believe) being a shell of his former self.

exactly, was just gonna post the same thing. he actually did nail it once. (also think he looks better than paris in those pics)

also rory double fucked his diets...: he was huge in the offseason but lost tons of muscle when dieting+ he didnt come in ripped enough. ("i benched 525 at 181" doesnt agree tho  ::)  )

Presently is around 190-200 pounds in good shape.

Nothing like when he competed but he`s in his 40`s now and still trains to keep fit.

I was the one that spotted King in 88 or so, at Gold's San Diego when he was on vacation, and he was nothing. 180-190# max, and did not recognize him, was told by the front desk who he was, and I was shocked.

The year Rory and Bob Paris competed at Nationals (83-San Jose) he looked great-BUT, I do not think he looked as good as in the pic I posted-he never looked that good on stage, but 83 is close.

And who ever said he ran into Paris was correct. Paris was unbeatable-Berry DeMay found that out later on at the Universe.

Rory actually trained Paris when Paris moved out to the west coast (OC) from Indiana. Would make Paris bulk up to insane obese weights and Paris said fuck this shit, and left Rory and his training advice.

back in the 80s they overdid everything (almost). dieting, training (volume).

motherfuckers would have been just as good doing 3-6 working sets per muscle group 2 times per week or every fifth day. (on for example an upper/lower split)
