McCain's VP choice
« on: May 12, 2008, 09:20:24 AM »
McCain’s VP choice should be Christine Todd Whitman.  I don’t like her politics, but I have great respect for her.  She was a two term governor of NJ and EPA Administrator in the Bush Administration until they ran her out of town for trying to do her job at the EPA.

Her East coast experience as a governor is the perfect compliment to McCain’s experience as a Senator from the West.  She has excellent experience and pedigree, yet is still younger than McCain and like him she represents a moderate wing of the GOP.  Her placement on the ticket would take the wind out of Obama’s claim to making 'history' because she would do so as well.  Best of all she is supremely qualified; people can support a McCain/Whitman ticket based on ability, experience, and qualification rather than on personality which is Obama’s primary claim to fame.

you are kidding right?

She was the one who told NYers that it was "all clear" for them to go back to work after 911.

Yes, as head of EPA, she trashed test results showing deadly toxins in the air.  Then, EPA whistleblowers came fwd, and she resigned.

bay - WTF do you mean "she tried to do her job"?  She let the white house SCRUB her report, and then she read it to the cameras!

Source: Huckabee Tops McCain's Veep List
May 12, 2008 11:38 AM ET | James Pethokoukis | Permanent Link

Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and defeated contender for the GOP presidential nomination, is currently at the top of John McCain's short list for a running mate. At least that's the word from a top McCain fundraiser and longtime Republican moneyman who has spoken to McCain's inner circle. The fundraiser is less than thrilled with the idea of Huckabee as the vice presidential nominee, and many economic conservatives—turned off by the populist tone of Huckabee's campaign and his tax record as governor—are likely to share that marked lack of enthusiasm. But here is the logic of picking Huckabee:

1) He is a great campaigner and communicator who could both shore up support in the South among social conservatives (Huckabee is a former Baptist minister) and appeal to working-class voters in the critical "Big 10" states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio.

2) As any pollster knows, voters search for candidates who "care about people like me," and Huckabee would probably score a lot higher on that quality than millionaire investor Mitt Romney. Plus, given all the turmoil on Wall Street, 2008 would seem to be a bad year to pick a former investment banker for veep.

3) Economic conservatives and supply-siders may balk, but the threat of four years of Obamanomics and higher investment, income, and corporate taxes might be enough to keep them on board.

Let me add that a top Republican political strategist told me about a month ago that he also believed Huckabee to be the leading veep contender.

Bay - Fifteen years ago, CTW was actually in position for a possible run at a future GOP presidential nomination, but the good ol' boys set up her up for a major fall, I believe.

At this point, she's still got a 'career' in politics, but she's no longer being considered for any of the top positions at the national level.

I liked her management style and was a big fan of hers for a long time, but she never quite gained the same amount of juice as H.R. Clinton, so very few Americans even know who she is.

I like Huck as a VP choice.

you take college performance into account when hiring interns and salesman.

You're telling me it's suddenly not relevant for the most position on earth?

monster ignorance.

Ignorance??  lol.  Is this the same person who just told me the president of the United States can fire federal judges?  lol.   :)

McCain isn't an intern.   ::)  You obviously have no experience in the interviewing process.  The farther away you are from school the less important your g.p.a. becomes.  Get some real world experience and this commonsense stuff won't be so foreign to you.

And don't go wet your pants because I actually responded to one of your posts.   :)

Between Whitman & McGreevy, NJ was left bankrupt.   She borrowed against state employee pension funds, and McGreevy focused on himself.  Maybe you are right, McCain should have her as his running mate.    I am not a fan of McCain, Clinton, Obama, but it may come down to the lessor of two evils.  Whitman as most polititians do, got her children out of some skirmishes with the law.  Just my 2 cents :-X
