Should I go to the Jr USA?
« on: May 14, 2008, 09:26:51 AM »
I am having 2nd thoughts on going to the Jr USA in Charleston, SC, this weekend (May 17).
I alredy have a ticket, a 2nd row seat. I think it is a well run, well orgnaized contest and it has some good physiques and figure girls on stage, etc.
It is a 360 mile drive ( 720 roundtrip) to the contest. I have a 6 cyl car and even at 25 mpg, it will cost about $100 bucks for the gas and another $100 for a decent room. I am not huring for money and just don't feel like taking the time to drive there.
Part of me wants to go see the show, but I also want to say F- it and jjust workout, hang around my place with my ex-wife/gf and dogs.
I think I would enjoy it more taking her our to a fancy dinner at some swanky joint  :D

What would you do?

It depends on what you believe you will get out of the experience. Will seeing the show inspire you in regards to your own training and dieting? Some people come away from a show inspired, because of seeing so many people in peak condition. Or will you come away, disillusioned knowing the vast amount of drugs these guys are on, realizing that you will probably never want to take that amount and that your HRT doses won't turn you into a monster. Will you put those thoughts aside and just enjoy the spectacle, not only on stage, but in the audience as well..you know what I mean, the girls in their crazy tight, hooker outfits, and the bulked out juicers walking around the lobby with their arms out like fighter jet wings. This is what you need to consider.

THanks and I am not down or depressed on bodybuilding, I just didn't feel like spending the time and effort to drive there by myself. My exwife/gf was pretty psyched when I told her I wanted to hang with her instead.
She plays keyboard in a country rock group, they have gig this saturday night near ATL.
Last yr, I went with that blonde woman, BETH and made a fun weekend trip of it.

I hesitated putting this up as it is a trivial personal issue. But since it was bodybuilding, I figured why not.

Finally a positive reason to get off my lazy ass and drive there ;)
I get tired, lathargic and lazy the last couple weeks of school most yrs.
I may go, I really want to see the show and have no reason to fart around here.

I used to be stationed near there when I was US marine, many moons ago.

I like bodybuilding as much as the next guy, but I would never go out of my way to attend a show.  Any show I attend has to be taking place in my city or very close to it (within 5-10 miles).  In my view people who drive hundreds of miles or fly half a country away to attend a bodybuilding show are... well... I better not finish that sentence.   :-[

LOL, but look at the number that travel to attend all kinds of other sporting events?
Bodybuilding is my favorite sport and my going to a meet like the Jr USA is like a college  football fan going to watch his team at an away game.

I know what you mean about the hassle of traveling , trust me Bay

Is it a natural event Howard and if not than why are you supporting, in your words, the abuse of drugs ???

All the bodybuilders will be natural and no figure girls will have boob implants , either. ::)
If ya can't beat 'em, join 'em is my motto aka when in Rome....etc.

On a somewhat serious note, I really enjoy seeing NPC National shows. You get to see all the wt classes and various physiques battle it out. I am going to just the night show however.

Tomorrow's thread by Howie:

Hey, guys, I need your help - Should I wear black underwear today, or gray?  I really can't decide, and my constant indecision compels me to go to a bodybuilding board to seek advice from strangers on this important matter.  On the one hand, gray says "sophisticated" and "worldly", yet black seems to hide the skid marks better.  Say, have I ever told you guys about my girlfriend/ex?  I don't think I've mentioned her in my many posts, and I want you guys to know I'm not gay or a loser.  I get pussy, you know, dammit!  Say... what do you guys thing about drugs in bodybuilding?  The should do testing, dammit...  drugs are killing the sport!  Okay, so what about the underwear thing?  What would you do?  Please answer soon, because if I can't get any good advice on this, I'm not going to be able to get dressed, and I'm not sure they'll let me teach naked.

Thanks, guys!

Howard,

I like you a lot. You seem like a fun guy and a nice person. However, driving 700 miles to watch young boys straining, posing and flexing in a G-string, I can't relate to that in any way. I would save the 200 bucks and take your wife out.

LOl, thanks...I think :D
It is just over 5 hrs on hwy each way. Lots of sports fans drive more than that to see stuff.
Bodybuilding is my sport and I really enjoy attending events.
My wife and I are going out friday night anyway.

The only thing gayer than driving 300 miles to see an amateur bodybuilding show is driving 30 miles to play in a Scrabble tournament!
